On Saturday, Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, launched Russia’s strategic nuclear missile forces.
As per the Russian news agencies, RIA Novosti and Interfax cited Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Pskov as saying Putin and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko followed the drills from the situation room in the Kremlin as the exercises had started.
Western nations were in fear of what could be one of the worst conflicts since the Cold War. Russian troops clouded near Ukraine’s border and were moving forward. They seem to be “poised to strike,” Washington said.
“Russian forces were starting to “uncoil and move nearer” to the border with its former Soviet neighbour,” said U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. Further, he wished that Putin could step back from the brink of conflict.
In a news conference in Lithuania, Mr Austin told an invasion of Ukraine was not inevitable. While Russia ordered the military build-up at the same time demanding NATO prevent Ukraine from ever joining the alliance.
But Western predictions it is planning to invade Ukraine are dangerous as well as wrong. Now, all it says is pulling back.
Note: Washington and NATO claim that Moscow’s primary demands cannot be met, and concerns about Putin’s objectives are growing in Ukraine.
