Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a war on Ukraine.
He said the clashes between Russian and Ukrainian forces are “inevitable”. Putin even called on Ukrainian service members to “lay down their arms and go home.”
He said the special military action was
“aimed at demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.”
As the tensions escalate between Ukraine and Russia, the Russian military admits that they are targeting Ukrainian airbases and military assets solely. The Associated Press (AP) reported that the military has not yet attacked in any populated areas.
The Russian military issued the statement as soon as President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine and warned other countries that any attempt to interfere with the Russian action would lead to “consequences you have never seen in history.”
Putin has put it out that the escalated tensions between the two nations are completely inevitable.
As the President gave his statement, explosions were heard from Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other regions of Ukraine. The journalists of the Associated Press in the cities of Odesa and Kharkiv accounted for hearing the explosions in the early hours of Thursday.
US-based BNO News broadcasted a video clipping that showed huge flashes of light on the darkened horizon, part of a Russian attack on eastern Ukraine.
As Russia declared war on Ukraine, the Ukraine foreign minister subsequently stated that the country “will defend itself and win.” Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted,
“Putin has just launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Peaceful Ukrainian cities are under strike.
This is a war of aggression. Ukraine will defend itself and will win. The world can and must stop Putin. The time to act is now.”
United States President, Joe Biden, stated that the world shall “hold Russia accountable,” and the head of the Noth Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has called Russia’s actions a violation of international law and a serious security threat to Europe and Atlantic Nations.
Earlier the Ukrainian President claimed that their country posed no threat to Russia and made a passionate and emotional plea for peace.
