A construction site in J&K’s Ramban district collapsed, trapping several workers within.
Ambulances were dispatched to the Ramban district of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway area when a part of a four-lane tunnel that was under construction at the moment collapsed. three people were rescued from the site of the incident while several were injured and trapped inside the tunnel still. One out of the three rescued was immediately taken to the government medical hospital in Jammu.
Machinery that was parked in front of the tunnel-like bulldozers and trucks were severely damaged. Ramban deputy commissioner Massaratul Islam and senior Superintendent of police Mohit Sharma, are present at the spot and supervising the whole rescue operation.
The people who are still trapped inside are workers who are working at the construction site. They belong to the Sarla company and many of the missing workers have been identified as Jadav Roy (23) Gautam Roy (22), Sudhir Roy (31), Dipak Roy (33) and Parimal Roy (38), Shiva Chown (26) from Assam, Nepali citizens Nawaraj Chowdhury (26) and Kushi Ram (25), and Jammu and Kashmir residents Muzaffar (38) and Israt (30) who are residents of West Bengal.
The union minister also gave a statement saying, that the rescue operation is going on in full swing and the civil administration and police authorities are monitoring the whole situation.
Many photos from the site have been surfacing the internet and going viral due to the destruction seen in them. several ambulances have been dispatched the location from Banihal to the incident location. The joint rescue operation was launched immediately by police and the army after a small portion of the front side of the tunnel collapsed.
The front portion of the tunnel collapses about 30 to 40 meters inside the tunnel, the incident happened at 10:15 PM on 19th May (Thursday) at the audit tunnel of T3 on the highway near Khooni Nallah. Even though the rescue mission is on go but the continuous shooting of stones has created a problem to rescue people from within the tunnel.
