Operation Romeo is a new Hindi movie, starring Sharad Kelkar, Bhumika Chawla, Kishore Kadam, Sidhant Gupta and Vedika Pinto.
Operation Romeo is the latest movie of the actor Sharad Kelkar. According to Kelkar, the movie will allow the audience to see him in a different and ‘gritty’ role which makes the movie really important for him.
“Operation Romeo is a very important film for me as an actor. There are a lot of commercial and parallel films that I do but this is a mix of both. It is entertaining and has a great subject.”
In an interview with PTI, the 45-year-old actor said, “This is a dark gritty role and people haven’t seen me in this kind of part so it is like reinvention. The last four outings were all hit commercial films and my work was appreciated. I am very grateful,”
Operation Romeo is directed by the Chalo Dilli fame director, Shashant Shah. The film is a remake of Anuraj Manohar’s Malayalam hit film Ishq: Not a Love Story, which was released in 2021. The themes of greed and moral policing are central to the film.
Sharad Kelkar, who describes himself as a “producer’s actor,” believes it is high time for filmmakers to bet big on small-budgeted projects. “I am a producer’s actor because I think from a business point of view. In this industry, people invest money in films, they should get a return. I try to finish as early as possible. I am a producer friendly actor. I am a workaholic and I need to act, otherwise I will go crazy,” he added.
“I understand that there is a commercial success and a critical success of a film. Until you prove your commercial success through a film, people will take time to put money on you. In that sense, this film is important. A small film should work then the trust (will be built) not just for me but other (actors) too. For Rajkummar Rao, Stree changed the game in a big way. I think ‘apna time bhi aayega’,” he added.
“This is a difficult film to do. Being in an intense and dark scene, you have to be in the same frame of mind. That was tough.” Kelkar claims to avoid method acting as he believes time is money. “I don’t overthink. I don’t go into methods. I believe a scene works in an impromptu manner. Other than rehearsing again and again, the expressions will be mechanical.”
When asked about what made him choose Operation Romeo, Kelkar’s response was, “The film has an interesting storyline. When I heard the narration, I thought I haven’t done this before. This is that one role that I had never imagined that I would do. Once you watch the film, you will understand why I am saying this. Firstly, it is a difficult role for a family man to play. Secondly, I love Neeraj (Pandey, producer) sir; he is a great storyteller and has a vision. He is a nice man and is very clear about what he wants from his actors. I missed out on a couple of projects with him in the past, but Special Ops happened. Then, I met Shashant Shah (director). He is a very genuine filmmaker.”
Sharad Kelkar is well known for his performances in Goliyon Ki Raas Leela Ram-Leela as Khanji Sanera, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and Laxmii. Now in Operation Romeo, Kelkar plays the role of Mangesh Jhadav, an unpredictable and greedy police officer. Bhumika Chawla, Kishore Kadam, Sidhant Gupta, and Vedika Pinto also star in the film. Operation Romeo is set to release in Cinemas on April 22.
Next up for Kelkar are five movie projects including a Marathi and a Tamil movie. Other than this the actor would be seen in Kirti Kulhari’s Directorial debut Nayeka.
