100 acres in Yelahanka is identified for the university set up
After Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) dream of setting up a sports university is coming true. Following its path, the Karnataka Government plans to set up a sports university on the outskirts of the city. A 100-acre land in Yelahanka is selected by the Department of Sports for the university construction and work.
Central government project:
The University will be funded by the Center. This makes Karnataka sports university second among such universities. The first is the National Sports University in Imphal, Manipur.
The plan for the university is to offer both graduation and post-graduation courses. Courses of various sports and their related subjects including medicine, nutrition, and counselling.
Location and acquisitions:
The identified location is near Kempe Gowda International Airport. Of the 100 acres of land, 65 acres belong to the state government, and 35 acres of private land. The private area is to be acquired by the government. The Revenue Department will be handing over the 35 acres to the Department of Sport as early as possible.
Department of Sports’ says:
Narayana Gowda, Minister of Sports said that the university will be set to meet international standards. Athletes from all over the country can come down to study and practice sports.
These days, athletes who could afford high-tech training expenses go out of the country to pursue it. One of the purposes of the university is to get international standards for talented athletes without financial stress.
Karnataka state plans:
The project is to be placed before the state Cabinet. A dedicated act is to be passed in this regard. The Act will be placed before both the houses of the State legislature in the upcoming days. Karnataka has other universities which could give world-class training. But those are private and this is completely run by the government and the financial aspect is also covered.
This setup is to be discussed with sports persons concerned, experts from the industry of sports, people associated with sports, the medical fraternity, and more. The syllabus is to be framed accordingly after the discussion. Other states in India and countries of the world will be visited before setting up the university. This will be useful as it can be implemented in the state.
The motive is to build a university that will not only be just a training center that trains one for medals but focuses on overall health and fitness.
