Squid Game’s director Hwang Dong-Hyuk confirms Squid Game will return for a season 2 along with a special message for fans around the world.
With over 111 million views and about 1.6 billion hours watched, Squid Game is officially the most-watched series of all time. Squid Game was released on 17 September 2021 and within 2 weeks the show gained worldwide attention making it a major success. However, now, Netflix is coming back for Squid Game’s second season and the fans are expecting nothing less.
(Season 1 spoiler alert!) Squid Game revolves around a set of simple games that people in debt are offered to play. The rules are simple, the winner gets a whopping 45.6 billion won which is roughly around 38 million US Dollars. However, the losers of the game have to pay the cost with something more valuable – their lives.
On Sunday, Netflix on YouTube announced the second season with a teaser and the caption said – “Red light…GREENLIGHT! Squid Game is officially coming back for season 2!”. The announcement was made on Twitter as well as on Instagram but in an addition to a special message to the audience by the director, writer and executive producer of Squid Game – Hwang dong-Hyuk.
“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.” He wrote. The letter seems to bring out the emotions of overwhelmingness for the previous season with a pinch of excitement for what’s saved up for the future. Squid Game’s director while appreciating the fans across the globe further writes “As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show. And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su. Join us once more for a whole new round.”
