Sridevi is considered a legendary actress to date even though it has been years since she passed away. Sridevi made her comeback to Bollywood through the movie English Vinglish. The film English Vinglish completes 10 years of release very soon.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary, the sarees will be auctioned. The director of the movie Gauri Shinde has planned to auction the sarees on the 10th anniversary to honor the legendary late actress Sridevi. A special event is organized for the same reason.
The film English Vinglish marked the comeback of Sridevi after a gap of 15 long years. She (Sridevi) played the role of Shashi Godbole who is an entrepreneur who makes snacks, and laddoos. She enrolls in an English-speaking class in a foreign nation. With months of dedication and hard work, she finally learns to speak English. She even gives a speech in English at the end of the movie, leading the movie’s characters (onscreen characters ) in shock and surprise. She takes up English speaking class because she was constantly made fun of, and mocked by her husband and daughter for her poor English.
This film received a lot of praise, applause, and critical acclaim from the critics and the audience. The film was released on October 5th, 2012.
On the 10th anniversary, on 10th October 2022, Gauri Shinde and the team have planned to organize a special event where the sarees worn by Sridevi in the movie will be auctioned. The money received from the auction sale will go to an NGO which will eventually fund girl child education. In conversation with The Indian Express, The film English Vinglish was the directorial debut for Gauri Shinde.
The movie will also be screened in Andheri, Mumbai on October 10th. The makers of the film are also planning a conversation post the movie, which the auction of the sarees will follow. According to the director Gauri Shinde, it is the right time to auction the sarees as they will be befitting now.
English Vinglish was the first film she did after a gap of 15 years. The film she did before English Vinglish was “Judaai” which was released in 1997. After English Vinglish she starred in Tamil movies Puli and Hindi movie Mom.
English Vinglish also won the Academy Awards for the best foreign language film. The film received a 5-minute standing ovation at the Toronto film festival. Adil Hussain, Mehdi Nebbou, and Priya Anand played supporting and pivotal roles in the film. Sridevi passed away in 2018
