Anger over the Israeli offensive in Gaza has drawn protests across Europe, with riot police resorting to using tear gas and water cannons on Saturday. Thousands marched peacefully elsewhere around France — including London, Rome, Brussels, Madrid—to highlight Palestinians’ compelled living conditions since 2000 when Hamas took control of their newly won freedom after decades under occupation by Israel.
The French government must do something about this injustice before more violence breaks out!
Parisians took to the streets in solidarity in the French capital after police used tear gas and water cannons on protesters.Â
Protesters dispersed as they played cat-and-mouse with security forces throughout northern neighbourhoods for an Administrative Court blockaded their march starting point near a working-class neighbourhood that saw 4200 officers deployed by Police Chief Didier Lallement order into action because the administration feared violence from both sides if it went ahead without being cancelled first due legal obstacles.Â
Still, many radicalized Islamist cells were operating freely around France’s military airport located just outside central city limits.
Yet what happened while the protest took place:
Authorities have banned a pro-Palestinian march in Paris on Saturday because it threatens to degenerate into violence. Officials gave the order after the 2014 protest against Israel’s offensive of Gaza degenerated, and authorities noted that organizers sought to “denounce latest Israeli aggressions.”Â
One poster read: “Stop Annexation – Palestine Will Vanquish!” Small gatherings were facing off with police as they protested plans for an upcoming demonstration this coming Monday.Â
Not everyone agreed on carrying out something at once or taking part altogether due to differing opinions about what action should take next regarding future movements forward within the Missing Peace solidarity network.
The ways used to stop the protestors:
The protesters in Paris shifted from neighbourhood to neighbourhood as police closed in on them, sometimes with tear gas and water cannons.Â
Some demonstrators attempted arson against banks, but firefighters could put out the fires before they could cause too much damage or injury; 44 people were arrested during this period for their actions that included throwing projectiles at security forces while others stood guard outside major landmarks like Eiffel Tower.
What did the government reply?
The French government is calling for an end to the violence in neighbouring countries. “We don’t want scenes of violence,” said a spokesman from the Interior Ministry, adding that France wants “a conflict imported-to their soil.”
Demonstrators chanted “Free Palestine!” and marched through London’s Hyde Park to demand Britain stop its military support for Israel. They gathered outside the Israeli Embassy, watched by many police officers there if any violence broke out with protestors against empire-building policies imposed on Palestinians ever since Zionist militias took over their land following WWII.
Everybody with their head high:
Husam Zumlot, leader of the Palestinian Embassy to the UK and Ireland, told us that this time would be different. “This is our chance at freedom,” he said as people in attendance cheered on his words with excitement- many were carrying placards saying “Free Palestine!” or simply writing messages like ‘free Palestine.’
Hundreds of people confronted the cold and rain to listen to speeches, wave Palestinian flags on Friday evening in The Hague.
Dutch police briefly detained about 100 pro-Palestinian demonstrators because they were not socially distancing themselves from locals during their demonstrations, according to authorities who informed them that this was considered hostile behaviour for many residents nearby.
The pro-Palestinian protesters in Paris demonstrated peacefully on Saturday. The demonstrations were also held across the German cities and Brussels (host of Europe).
Madrid saw 3,500 people gather for a protest which chanted, “This is not war; this is Genocide!” Spanish speakers carried signs that said USA Terrorist State & Muslim Lives Matter.Â
At the same time, Berlin police broke up an unruly gathering after reports came out about distancing regulations regarding coronavirus infection control failure, which led them to disperse protestors throwing stones, bottles fireworks, among other things.
