The Institute of Mental Health has organized a program to conduct research on assessing the mental health issues faced by youngsters across regions in Singapore.
Nowadays, many are facing mental issues, and that urges us to consider mental health. Because of this, the Institute of Mental Health will conduct research on the factors that cause mental illness. Â
Research is expected to start in the month of October and proceed till 2024.
This research will focus on people aged 15 to 36 who have undergone major life changes like immigration, health conditions, trauma, etc. The main aim of the research is to identify factors that are causing mental illness. Â
The research methodology will be based on interviewing people by providing them with a list of questions to answer. The data will be gathered on feelings, experiences in school and the workplace, social support, lifestyle behaviors, etc. Â
The research will cover a variety of issues related to mental health, such as social media abuse, bullying, addiction, low self-esteem, stress, etc.
The reports from the end of this research will reveal reasons for mental illness. Once the reasons are identified, proper measures can be taken.
Mental health is a sensitive subject. Carrying on, the psychological factors may vary from person to person.
Especially in the case of youths, it is unknown if they ever seek help in case of mental illness. The causes of mental illness can be discovered by conducting research.Â
Also, this will make it easier to support the people by taking measures and implementing new programs.
Though there is other research undertaken in this field, this is the first research to focus on this subject matter.
The data from this research can be used for future reference as well.
