The movie “The Kashmiri Files” was released on March 11. Ever since it got released, it has been creating a buzz and records of sorts. Even after the release politics and religion entered into the movie and how the flaming controversies started for the Kashmiri files. The film focuses on the era of the 1990s when Kashmiri Pandits were evacuated from the Valley.
The film is directed by Vivek Agnihotri, star cast Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, and Pallavi Joshi among others.
While some moviegoers can’t seem to get ample of the hard-hitting and brutally honest picture of the fleeing of the Kashmiri Pandits in 1989-90. Although the Muslim community raised concerns over the content of the film after the issues raised the chief censor is reviewing the film’s classification.
Social media is flooded with videos from both inside and outside movie theatres where people can be seen using abusive slang for Muslims, with a few using strongly provocative language and raising angry slogans.
The controversy flamed after the movie saw a sudden dip in its ratings, which went down to 8.3. Before this IMDb the rating was 9.9/10, it was unquestionably a moment worth celebrating for the film’s team as well as the broader audience in India.
So far, 521,316 IMDb users have given their verdict on ‘The Kashmir Files’ by casting a weighted average vote, which currently stands at 8.3 / 10. Although director Agnihotri is extremely dejected with the terms and it’s the change “unusual and unethical”.
“Our rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title. To preserve the reliability of our rating system, an alternate weighting calculation has been applied” IMDb has given its explanation for the changes. But with Indian moviegoers, it doesn’t seem insufficient and vague explanation.

Moreover, the sensitive political nature of the film and charges of inaccuracy/deliberate misrepresentation of facts has led to accusations of the government indulging in propaganda.
Now, we have to wait and watch what would come out of the controversy the dip in the ratings has stirred up!
