Debut With AEW: This past Wednesday night’s episode of “AEW Dynamite” was the first time that Johnny Elite, previously known as John Morrison in WWE, competed for All Elite Wrestling. The man who formerly held the WWE Intercontinental Championship competed in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament as a “Joker” but was eliminated by the current ROH Television Champion, Samoa Joe, in the first round of competition.
Fans have been guessing about the Debut With AEW identity of the “Joker” for many days. The term “Joker” has been used historically in AEW to refer to an unexpected appearance, which is often made by a professional wrestler making their Debut With AEW with the organization. In the past, people like “Hangman” Adam Page, Matt Sydal, and Ruby Soho have all joined the business by participating as “Jokers” in a Casino Battle Royale. Typically, these competitions take place at Dynamite and Rampage also.
Tony Khan, the owner, and president of AEW gave his opinion on the matter during an interview on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio before the “AEW Rampage” event that took place on May 20. Despite the fact that it has been rumored that Elite has not committed to full-time terms with the organization.
Khan said, “Oh man, it was wonderful to have Johnny Elite here,” referring to the event. Debut With AEW “What a terrific matchup he had with Samoa Joe,” said the guy. “His first-ever appearance in the Owen [Hart Foundation Tournament] was marked by such a successful performance. That was incredible, and I cannot express how grateful I am that he was able to be here. He is a wonderful mentor to some of the young wrestlers in the locker room, and someone I believe fans have looked up to for a long time, and he went toe-to-toe with one of the hardest wrestlers in AEW. Samoa Joe is not only one of our great stars, but he is also one of the greatest stars in the whole history of the Ring of Honor.”
Before participating in Debut With AEW “AEW Dynamite,” Johnny wrestled under the name of Johnny Caballero in a three-way tag team match at “AAA TripleMania XXX: Monterrey” on April 30. This bout took place in Monterrey. He joined forces with Taurus, and together they were victorious over Dragon Lee and Dralistico, as well as Jack Cartwheel and Laredo Kid.
