Sudip Roy Barman, congress leader, and the former Tripura Health Minister was severely injured in an attack on his home turf of Agartala late Sunday by a group of unknown assailants. The leader has been hospitalized for treatment.
The leader has been admitted to a private hospital, ILS Hospital with injuries on his head and face. His car was also learned to have been smashed in the assault.
Party sources say the leader was contesting from Agartala and was in Ujan Abhoynagar to meet one of his supporters Bapi Goswami, after hearing the assault case on Congress as a part of his campaign when he was attacked. Sources said Mr. Barman did not take security guards along with him. He was attacked with bricks and sticks, they added.
The suspects in this case also vandalized the leader’s car and Congress flags after attacking him, Officials added.
The leader already had quit the BJP earlier this year to join the Congress party.
