Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), to provide free LPG connections, and the Saubhagya Yojana to provide free electricity connections are some of the schemes launched by BJP in 2017.
It is believed that launching such women-centric schemes led to the victory of the BJP in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in 2017. Owing to the 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, BJP is again banking on its old strategy.
Yogi Adityanath is promising more such schemes in near future and will ensure that the schemes reach the beneficiaries in time. BJP is hoping to re-establish its reign over Uttar Pradesh in 2022 based on these schemes.
The Ujjwala Yojana
On August 26, Yogi Adityanath met virtually with the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana 2.0. He revealed the strategic focus on introducing several women-centric schemes in the state as well as the center.
He also spoke highly about the achievement of the target of the first phase of the Ujjwala Yojana of providing eight crores free LPG connections in September 2019 which was achieved seven months before the pre-set deadline.
He revealed that 1.47 crore families of Uttar Pradesh got free LPG connections in the first phase of the scheme, thereby became the state to drive maximum benefit out of the scheme.
He said that 20 lakh families of Uttar Pradesh would be benefitted under the second phase of the Ujjwala Yojana which was recently launched by the Prime Minister from Mahoba in Bundelkhand on August 10.
The Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 is aimed at providing free-of-cost LPG connections to one-crore families across the nation. The administration has already recognized 20 lakh families who would get free LPG connections.
Yogi discussed the previous women-centric schemes launched by the Centre which hugely benefitted Uttar Pradesh. He spoke about the success of the Swachh Bharat Mission through which the toilets were built in 2.61 lakh homes in Uttar Pradesh.
He also put some light on the women’s self-help groups in every gram panchayat that is responsible for upkeeping of the community toilets.
He further recalled the days when people struggled to get assured LPG connections. They used to stand in queues from midnight to morning only to find that the cylinders have got exhausted.
To get an LPG connection, people have to pay a hefty amount of Rs25,000 to Rs30,000. But the introduction of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in 2016 assured the LPG connections for crores of families nationwide without any discrimination.
BJP is hoping for the recently launched second phase of the Ujjwala Yojana to carry forward the success of the first phase of the scheme, which can improve its chances to emerge victorious in 2022.
