Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the newly appointed Prime Minister of the UK, Liz Truss, to discuss nation ties along with paying his condolences for Queen’s demise.
PM Modi tweeted on Saturday and informed about his call with UK’s Prime Minister, Liz Truss. The two leaders talked about strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations.
“Spoke with UK PM @trussliz and exchanged views on further strengthening the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all sectors,” tweeted PM Modi. He further added that he also expressed sincere condolences for the Queen’s demise.

The conversation between the two leaders was the first ever after UK’s elections and Liz Truss, who was in charge of leadership of Conservatives, elected as Prime Minister of the UK. British PM Liz Truss also thanked PM Modi for condolences on behalf of 1.3 billion Indians.
The two leaders further discussed bilateral ties, including implementation of the Roadmap 2030,cooperation in trade negotiations, defence and security cooperation and the people- to-people ties between the two countries.
MEA Statements
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) from both the countries also issued statements further informing about the conversation between the two leaders.
“PM Modi congratulated PM Truss on assuming the office of the Prime Minister of the UK. He also appreciated her contributions to the India-UK bilateral relationship in her previous roles as Trade Secretary and Foreign Secretary. Both leaders committed to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and UK,” the MEA said in a statement.
“On behalf of the people of India, Prime Minister Modi conveyed deep condolences to the Royal family and the people of UK on the sad demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” MEA added.
While the British Prime Minister’s office at 10 Downing Street, also issued statements from its own side announcing details about the call.
“The Prime Minister spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi this afternoon, following the death of Her Majesty The Queen…. The Prime Minister thanked Prime Minister Modi for his heartfelt condolences, which he said were on behalf of 1.3 billion Indians,” said the office’s statement.
“The leaders acknowledged the grief felt by the many people of the UK and India, and paid tribute to Her Majesty The Queen’s lifetime of service,” the officials stated. “The two agreed on the vital importance of the UK-India relationship and looked forward to meeting in person in the near future.”
