The envoy of Ukraine to India, Igor Polikha, pleaded to India to intervene in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, stating that India’s “strong voice” might make the Russian President, Vladimir Putin to “think.” Further, the envoy praised India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being a “strong global leader.”
However, a flow of criticism was directed towards the Foreign Ministry, which ended the envoy saying” the words- “deeply” dissatisfied,” expressing his disappointment in India’s global stand on the issue.
Igor told the reporters in the National Capital that he is following all the reports on the website of India’s ministry and any advisory that has been issued for the citizens of Ukraine. Further, he expressed his sheer disbelief and disappointment in the country’s Ministry of External Affairs.
He stated that all the recommendations or the statements of the Foreign Ministry of the country (India is “closely” following the developments of the conflict that took place since Thursday morning); this makes the Ukrainians deeply dissatisfied.” India has quite a neutral stand on the conflict, and this comes as a disappointment to them.
The envoy asked (emotionally) that what did the country mean by” “closely following?” Adding to this is that fifty Ukrainians have already been killed, and thousands of killings are yet to be unraveled. Igor continued asking what would happen when this took place. Will India still be following the events “closely?”
However, Ukraine has expressed its belief in India’s global outlook and pushed the Prime Minister to intervene and speak to Russian President Putin. The only thing they want at the moment is that Russia put its weapons down, and the conflict de-escalates.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of the most powerful, respected world leaders… I don’t know how many words leaders Putin may listen to. But the stature of Modi-Ji makes me hopeful that in case of his “strong voice,” Putin at least should think over.”
-Igor Polikha, Ukraine’s envoy to India
Vladimir Putin, the Russian Prime Minister, had ordered a “special military operation” in the early hours of Thursday, and since then, the country has been in unrest. The only hope that the country wants to be fulfilled is that the tensions de-escalate and Peace should be picked before things worsen.
