Over the past few days, Ukraine has been successful in retaking a number of cities and villages in the northeast of the nation, notably Kupiansk recently and the strategically significant town of Izyum.
Since Russian troops were driven from the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv in March, Moscow’s rapid loss at the cost of Kharkiv province on Saturday was its worst. On Sunday, Ukrainian forces continued their quick advance in the Kharkiv region, taking advantage of a remarkable breakdown in Russian fortifications.
Unverified reports from the previous night said that Kiev’s forces had captured Velykyi Burluk, a town located about 90 kilometers (56 miles) east of Kharkiv and close to the Russia-Ukraine border. According to a Russian-installed official in Kharkiv, Ukraine, Ukrainian soldiers overpowered Russian and pro-Russian forces there by eight times during a quick counteroffensive last week, according to Reuters.
Without making any more comments, the Russian Defense Ministry published a map on Sunday that showed the majority of the nation’s forces outside of the Kharkiv region. The ministry has acknowledged the removal of troops from Balaklyia, a third significant town, in order to “bolster efforts” on the Donetsk front.
President Volodymyr Zelensky asserted that since starting a new counteroffensive earlier this month, Ukraine had liberated 2,000 sq. km (700 sq. miles) from Russia in his nightly video message on Saturday.
Not just the northeast but the Ukrainian military forces claimed that they are also proceeding with the south territory reclamation and have been insisting the Russian forces fighting west of Dnipro river in the Kherson region to back out.
Russia Reacts
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, insisted on Monday that the invasion of Ukraine, which the country refers to as a “special military operation,” will go on despite the loss of dozens of its occupied towns and villages in the northeastern Kharkiv region.
Coming back to the region Russian forces were rearranged and asked to pay importance to guarding the neighboring Donetsk after the surprise attack in the Kharkiv region. When Peskov was asked about the state of the Nation’s military abilities and if they are still in terms with the strategies of the nation’s leader.
To answer that Peskov said that the military force and establishment of the Nation would definitely finish its target and the set goals and will keep working on them no matter what. Although, Russia stands with increased threats and possible attacks in the future to consolidate its lost authority again, but the situation now can be a huge setback in terms of Russia’s conquers in the infamous battle with Ukraine.
Loss of strategic areas like Izyum which was taken by Russian for its importance as a railway hub can be counted as too big a cost paid by Russia. With the world talking about the fall of the position of Russia after the war, Kremlin shows no sign of concern with the ongoing crisis. Putin continues to carry on with the prescheduled activities and have not yet reacted in any way.
Back in Russia
Back in Russia, in spite of the situation and the growing terms imposed on different arenas, the pro Putin delegates and the “Kremlin loyal” delegates won the elections receiving votes from the citizens showcasing the unwavering loyalty of the citizens. With such an overwhelming positive response, the United Russia party therefore won in 14 Russian regions and six regional legislatures reported New York Times.
Meanwhile Russian retaliation is eminent in its decision of directing rockets to some regions In the Kharkiv causing a casualty.
US has stayed critical of Russia throughout the recent events. Their stance on this entire process of Ukraine “reviving” the areas in northeast and Russia showing acts of retaliation remains unwavering as the recent tweet of the US ambassador to Ukraine read, “Russia’s apparent response to Ukraine liberating cities and villages in the east: sending missiles to attempt to destroy critical civilian infrastructure”
