The widow of a member of armed forces who has laid down his life while fighting for the country in a war or any military operation is called as a Veer nari. The Veerangana Sewa Kendra was inaugurated by the President of the Army wives Welfare Association on the premises of the Directorate of Indian Army Veterans in Delhi Cantonment.
The Veerangana Sewa portal
This portal will be available as a service of the Indian Army Veterans Portal www.indianarmyveterans.gov.in . This system will facilitate the registration of grievances with tracking , monitoring and regular feedback of the applicant. Veer naris or the next of kin will have multiple means for approaching the Veerangana Sewa Kendra through SMS, WhatsApp , telephone, post , e-mail or walk in to look for assistance.
The stakeholders associated can also monitor the status of grievances through customer relationship management software and the applicant can track and receive regular status updates by email and SMS.
The wonderful fact about this initiative is that Veer naris have been appointed as the staff in the Veerangana Sewa Kendra to maintain a sense of empathy and inherent connection with the beneficiaries and the applicant.
The Veerangana Sewa Kendra is one of its kind initiative by the Indian army to extend genuine care and support to the widows and Veer naris which has provided them financial inclusion by appointing them in the service of their kin.
In the defense parlance, those personnel’s who have laid down their lives in the service of the country in a war or in a military contingency operation whose life is attributable to the nation are no longer called war widows, they are proudly called as ‘Veer naris’.
The project leverages digital technology in the seamless coupling of stakeholders like the Officers Record Office, Record office, ECHS, AWICA, Colonels Veteran staff, Liaison officer on a common digital platform. Non military stakeholders like Rastriya Sainik Board (RSB), Kendriya Sainik Board and Zila Sainik Board are linked through email
The project has been driven by DIAV and the technology solutions have been prepared by BISAG-N, while the Hero MotoCorp has supported the project through a CSR initiative to pour in funds for the project.
The Department of Defense and the Government of India has been coming up with new initiatives every now and then for the welfare of its citizens. There have been schemes running for the benefit of Veer naris but an important fact to note is that most concerns go unaddressed and unresolved, with the development of technology there has been a growing demand to solve the concerns and problems of the needy women who have martyred their spouse but is courageous enough to raise her family amidst the inherent struggle of survival.
