Zindagi was indeed badi, but alas not lambi for the famed Anand movie star Seema Deo. Her last breath was accounted today, at the age of 81. The demise is saddening for all of the cinematic fraternity.
The late actress’s son revealed that she was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, and had not been keeping well for over a year on account of age related issues. Seema Deo’s husband, late Mr. Ramesh Deo also took his last breath in the previous year on 2nd of February, 2022 at the Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani hospital, Mumbai.Â
She had a charismatic charm over the screens of both the hindi and marathi formats of films and television. Born and brought up in Girgaon, Mumbai, Seema Deo then Nalini Saraf, was the admirer of an act, of the stage and its theatrics. She quickly honed her skills, and fed her dreams with the multitude of roles she then went on to take that speak volume till date.
The novelty of her talent was introduced on the big screen in 1960 with Raja Paranjape’s directorial of ‘Jagachya Pathiwar’, and ‘Miya Bibi razi’ playing the character of Rajni. As described by Deo in one of her interviews of yesteryears, she quickly grew as a disciple to Raja Paranjape and his ideals upon which coincidentally enough, Bimal Roy offered her, her breakthrough role in Prem Patra alongside Shashi Kapoor and Sadhana. A Contract in those years that she signed for 5000rs.Â

Equating her graceful age is also the nostalgic record of the 80 films she featured in. Dus Lakh’ (1966), Saraswatichandra’ (1968), ‘Anand’ (1971), ‘Naseeb Apna Apna’ (1986), and Sansar (1987), to name a few. As the ideal of the fabled happily ever after, Seema deo met her husband Ramesh Deo on a train ride and possibly even with a bittersweet first encounter but the story for Varadakshina, the 1962 film and the couple was predestined. Along with the space on the silver screen, they both shared deep gratitude and love for each other. The demise of a loved one, ought to have caressed deep wounds for both the partner and now for the family.Â

The woman of many talents, a classically trained kathak dancer as well as an equipped businesswoman and co-founder of the Ramesh Deo Production house, Mrs. Deo honed her art to perfection and it is fitting to remember her in absolute bright spirits. Many figures from the marathi industry have penned their heartfelt notes for the late actor and mentioned how the void that has been created in the cinematic universe will remain deep and unfilled. Ashwini bhave, famed media personality also took to her social media platform to remember ‘Seema tai’ for her admirable roles on the screen, as a loving wife, dotting mother and an exceptionally fond grandmother to her grandkids.Â
Recent reporting of the last rituals being performed at 4pm at Shivaji Park Crematorium, have also come forward. Heaven has gained an angel, and with admirable memories of Seema Deo’s lifelong work, wishing the two sons and family warm condolences and strength to adhere upon.Â
