Virat Kohli has been given rest by Indian Cricket and will miss both the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies.
One of the best Indian batters, Virat Kohli, is suffering from a rough patch in his career and his problems only seem to worsen as the former captain has been rested. On Thursday, BCCI announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming 5-match T20I series against West Indies. In the list, Virat Kohli doesn’t find a place in the Indian team.
Although, it was Virat himself who asked for the rest from India’s tour of Windies, as sources claim. However, in situations like these, when Virat has been failing to perform, the West Indies tour could have been a revival for his career. In the event, he is not part of the squad, whether that will be termed “rest” or “dropped” will be a matter of conjecture.
Other than Virat, Jasprit Bumrah and Yazuvendra Chahal have also been given rest due to the quantity of cricket as Indian cricket would want their best players to be in good health.
The Indian side will be led by Rohit Sharma, who has also been rested for the 3-match ODI series. While KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav also get a place in the team, their availability is subject to fitness clearance.
On the other hand, R. Ashwin makes a comeback to the team. In preparation for the World Cup later this year, India is eager to try everything. While Ashwin returned to the white ball group for the T20I World Cup last year after a long absence, injuries have prevented him from being a regular member of the team since then.
India will play three one-day internationals and five twenty20 internationals during their Caribbean tour. Florida, USA, will host two of those T20Is. Shikhar Dhawan will serve as India’s captain in the one-day international series against West Indies. Pandya and Pant were rested for the ODI series but have been included in the T20I squad.
Team India is currently playing against England. India has already won the first match against the English side and is all set to play their second match Today at Oval. India will look forward to sealing the series by winning today’s match.
