The Manipur government took a U-turn when denied entry to Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal. Following the devastating and chilling incidents DCW chief scheduled a meeting with the survivors.
The Cause for Ethnic Unrest:
The conflict, which has been escalating over the past few weeks, has seen devastating consequences for civilians caught in the crossfire. Villages have been razed, and innocent lives have been lost, raising concerns about the deteriorating human rights situation in the region.
According to the locals, the main cause for the riot is an underlying historic land dispute, between the meiteis and the tribals Kukis. Their dispute didn’t stop over just land and power, and political status in the past few months has grown to an extent to give rise to heinous crimes for history and countrymen to remember.
Past Two Months:
Human rights organizations have raised alarm over reports of alleged human rights violations during the clashes. There have been claims of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, and forced displacements of civilians. The international community has called for an impartial investigation into these reports to ensure accountability and justice for the victims.
The Indian government has expressed concern over the escalating situation in Manipur and has assured its commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region. Prime Minister has urged all parties involved to come to the table for negotiations and find peaceful resolutions to their grievances.
In response to the violence, humanitarian organizations have initiated relief efforts to provide aid to the affected communities. Displaced families have been provided with temporary shelters, food, and medical assistance. However, there is an urgent need for more resources and support to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the unrest.
The Outraging Rape Case:
The already tense situation in Manipur has taken an even darker turn with the recent revelation of a horrifying rape case that has sent shockwaves through the region. Amidst the ongoing clashes between ethnic communities, the sexual assault incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for immediate action to ensure justice and protection for women in the state.
The incident came to light when a young woman from one of the affected communities came forward and bravely reported the sexual assault to the authorities. According to her statement, the heinous act was perpetrated by individuals belonging to another ethnic group. The alleged perpetrators have been identified, and the police have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
The Manipur police authorities have sought Twitter to inform them that the perpetrators altogether six individuals including one Juvenile were arrested.
Manipur government’s denial of entry to the DCW chief
Swati Maliwal, sought to Twitter to share what looks like a mail from Joint Secretary’s office, on 23/07/2023. According to the mail, the Manipur govt has asked her to postpone the visit amidst the chaos and violence. The DCW chief has relied upon saying, ‘She’s not visiting Manipur to do politics’ She has also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Women and Child Development Minister (Smriti Irani). Maliwal said earlier, many girls fled from Manipur to Delhi to seek help against violence and assault incidents. Further, she pleaded Government to Legitimize the visit to meet sexual assault survivors and help them.
In conclusion, the people of Manipur and the citizens of the country hope that, amidst the current turmoil, the survivor’s call for justice will not go unheard, and that collective efforts will be made to prevent such atrocities from recurring in the future.
