Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-brand is set to release their new flagship K50 gaming edition this week and will unveil the phone’s full specifications at an event in China happening at 7 PM IST. Fans of the smartphone brand have been anticipating its launch since leaks came out last month, revealing the new model’s design. There are four models in the Redmi K50 series: The Redmi K50, Redmi K50 Pro, and Redmi K50 Pro+ along with the gaming edition, according to a social media post by the company on Weibo. Xiaomi’s phones are popular among users for their gaming capabilities with impressive display specs, and long-lasting battery power. Users commend the brand for bringing features usually found in the high-end market to mid-range phones.
Let’s look at the specifications so far
The K50 Gaming edition is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4nm octa-core processor, with an Adreno 730 GPU, UFS 3.1 Storage, and LPDDR5 RAM. One of the new improvements is that it will have 40% better heat dissipation by Vapor Chamber cooling to prevent the device from overheating during long gaming sessions. The company claimed the phone would be the world’s first to be equipped with a CyberEngine ultra-wideband motor, which will support the haptic experience of the users, also touted as the most powerful haptic motor in a phone so far. The CyberEngine motor has a frequency range between 50 to 500hertz, which is higher than both Android and iPhone motors. All in all, it looks like gamers will have a really good experience with this model.
The triple camera setup comes with a primary camera that will use the 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor capable of taking impressive night-time photos, a 13MP OmniVision OV13B sensor, and a 2-megapixel tertiary lens. The flash sensor will have a lightning bolt design, with the island having the words “Freezing” and “Speediest” written on the left and right sides, similar to its predecessor. The model’s design is quite alike the K40 gaming edition, except this time, a racing stripe covers the length of the back. A company executive said on Weibo that Sportscars inspired the design for the phone.
According to the company, the K50 gaming edition will have a display that sets 15 records and has received the highest A+ score from DisplayMate. With a 6.67-inch Full HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling rate. The phone also comes with 1920Hz PWM high-frequency dimming, which reduces the stress on the eyes throughout long gaming sessions.
Redmi says that compared to the conventional 480Hz, the dimming frequency on the K50 Gaming is three times higher, which helps preserve color accuracy in low light. According to the posters of the model, it will come with physical magnetic shoulder keys and have dual stereo speakers made by JBL, the shoulder keys are maneuvered by a mechanical slide on the side of the model, and Gorilla glass Victus will protect the display.
Currently, the company has confirmed that the model comes in silver and blue options and three storage variants; 8GB RAM with 128GB internal storage, 12GB RAM with 128GB internal storage, and 12GB RAM with 256GB internal storage.
