Yami Gautam's Take On 'women-centric Film'

Yami Gautam is predominantly known for her commercial ad glow & lovely is currently engaged with the promotion of her upcoming film ‘Lost’. The movie is acknowledged to be a crime thriller.

The film directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury features her as a crime reporter working on an investigative story about the disappearance of a theatre artist. While promoting the movie, the actress recently spoke with a media house where she cited her opinion on cinema and most importantly, the term ‘women-centric film’.

Yami Gautam plays the protagonist, with Pankaj Kapur, Rahul Khanna, Neil Bhoopalam, Pia Bajpiee, and Tushar Pandey in supporting roles. The film premiered on ZEE5 on February 16, 2023.

Yami Gautam was bothered by the term ‘women-centric film’

In a recent interview, She revealed that people often use the term ‘women-centric film’ to describe a movie that highlights a female in the lead role, which bothers her to some extent.

She explained, “It bothers me, and it is a term that some folks in the media have picked up and used, even some actors use it too. Even I may have used it unknowingly somewhere because it sounds very pleasant. So now people are coming and saying, ‘Ma’am, yeh women-centric film hai’.

Further, she stated, “then you realise you know, that it’s telling you something. You need to look for the reason behind it and you have to understand that. Kitna bhi annoying sound ho, all those things are correct. Changes do not take place overnight. There have been legendary actresses who have given brilliant performances when such terms were not even in existence. I think it will take time. Moreover, it’s not the name, it is the film that works. The day Bollywood offers us more good movies, that day the term will certainly demolish.”
