A fire that had taken place in Tehran, 61 people injured and 4 people died.
At least four individuals were killed when a massive fire broke out inside a notorious prison in the city of Iran that accommodated social detainees and activists who opposed the government. Nevertheless, as per the state-owned news agency Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), 61 individuals had been injured, 51 had outpatient treatment, and four detainees died due to oxygen deprivation brought upon by the blaze.
Anti Government protests in Tehran
On Saturday evening, October 15, 2022, as the countrywide anti-government demonstrations sparked by the shooting death of a young lady Mahsa Amini in police detention began their sixth week, fires and smoking were seen emerging from Tehran’s Evin Jail. Shots were fired, and explosives were observed in the hospital neighborhood on internet videos.
Just after a wildfire damaged part of the jail the previous night, causing the death of four detainees and wounding 61 others, family and friends, and opponents assembled at Tehran’s renowned Evin prison on Sunday, the 16th of October 2022.
The 4 deaths were reported due to smoke inhalation, under the registered number of fatalities announced by the state mainstream media. Among the people hospitalized included 10 of the wounded.
But even though the exact number of deaths is most likely to be more significant, the family of the detainees, including several of the most famous people who are opposing the Government of Tehran, claimed that security officers were involved in igniting the blaze with single shot bullets and deploying tear gas.
Besides this, numerous detainees suffered from beatings.
A small number of families were ultimately given permission to enter the jail to speak with staff after demanding knowledge regarding the movements of their detained families. Afterward, notably renowned attorneys revealed that even though the female convicts were secure, approximately fifty more inmates had already been transported to Rajaee Shahr jail.
On Saturday, October 15, 2022, loud explosives and shooting were audible at the beginning of the incident, which caused different claims regarding the cause.
Many persons detained during the recent wave of public demonstrations in response to the death in detention of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdistan woman, have been transferred to the prison in Teheran.
