Selfiee is directed by Raj Mehta and produced by Hiroo Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Aruna Bhatia, Supriya Menon, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Listin Stephen and the story is written by Sachy.
The film Selfiee is a multi starer staring Akshay Kumar, Emraan Hashmi, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Diana Penty as the leads.
The film is an official remake of the Malayalam film Driving License (2019) starring Malayalam superstars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu. The film was a huge commercial success at the box office.
Selfiee is a comedy-drama with a simple plot that revolves around actor Vijay Kumar (Akshay Kumar) who is in need of a driving license urgently and a Motor Vehicle Inspector, Om Prakash (Emraan Hashmi), who is his die-hard fan and has a dream of clicking a selfie with Vijay Kumar, however, the events are not in the favor of the vehicle inspector Om Prakash after their first face to face encounter which leads to a drama which will be a face off in the lives of Vijay Kumar and Om Prakash.
The film is all set for release on 24th February 2024.
Akshay Kumar’s Trilogy
Since the release of the trailer of the film Selfiee, netizens have flooded social media with mixed responses, where one section of netizens is comparing it with Shahrukh Khan’s film Fan (2016) and criticizing it as a remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Driving License and the other section is happy with the face-off of the actors Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi on screen.
In the trailer, it is seen that the character played by Akshay Kumar (Vijay Kumar) is highly inspired by his real-life and it seems that Akshay Kumar is playing his real self avatar on screen. It is also seen in the trailer when the actor states “I do four films in a year and multiple ads” just like Akshay Kumar is known for being an action hero avatar, his screen character Vijay Kumar is also an action hero.
It is hardly possible for an actor to play himself on screen but actor Akshay Kumar has managed to play his real-life avatar on-screen thrice with his film Selfiee.
Previously actor Akshay Kumar played his real-life avatar on screen in the comedy film The Shaukeens (2014), starring Akshay Kumar, Anu Kapoor, Anupam Kher, and Lisa Haydon directed by Abhishek Sharma. The Shaukeens was an official remake of Basu Chatterjee’s 1982 comedy film Shaukeen.
After the film, The Shaukeens (2014) actor Akshay Kumar was seen playing his real avatar on-screen in the film, An Action Hero (2022) starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahlawat in the film Akshay Kumar played a character with the same name and he was an action hero in the film where in a scene he mentioned that “I have played too many roles as an action hero in my career”.
Selfiee will mark the third film where the actor will portray his real avatar on screen and fans can’t wait for the intense comedy drama.
