Vaathi (Sir) is an upcoming Indian language bilingual film in Tamil and Telugu. The film is written and directed by Venky Atluri. The film is a coming-of-age action-drama. It was shot in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously. The film is titled initially Vaathi in Tamil, which means master or leader, and Sir in the Telugu language. It is produced by Sithara Entertainment and Fortune Four Cinemas. It stars Dhanush and Samyukta Menon as the leads.
On the production front, the principal photography began on January 7th, 2022 and the second schedule began in April 2022, as Dhanush was busy with the shooting of Naane Varuvean, and he joined the sets of Vaathi, after his shooting of Naane Varuvean. The final filming of the film was completed in October 2022.
The music is composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar, and the first single from the film, titled Vaa Vaathi in Tamil, was released on 10th November 2022. The lyrics of the song Vaa Vaathi were given by Dhanush. The second single, Naadodi Mannan in Tamil, was released on 17th January 2024. The complete album of the Tamil version of the film was released on 4th February 2024.
Previously, the film was scheduled to hit the big screens on, 2nd December 2022, in Tamil and Telugu languages together, but later the release was postponed and it was announced in November 2022, that the film is all set to hit the big screens on, 17th February 2024.
Initially, the digital streaming rights of the film were acquired by AHA Tamil, but later Netflix bagged the rights, and the satellite rights were bagged by Sun TV.
The plot of the film revolves around a junior lecturer of a third-grade class at Thirupati Educational Institute, where he stands against the institutes that provide education to children in exchange for business profits.
Vaathi Trailer Out
Just a week before the release of the film the makers decided to give a glimpse of the film by unveiling the trailer. The trailer of the film was unveiled on 8th February 2024, by Sun TV on their YouTube channel.
In the trailer of Vaathi, it is seen that the chairman of a private educational institution announces the adoption of a few government colleges to provide better education to the students of rural areas.
Dhanush plays the protagonist of a professor, Balamurgan, in Tamil and Bal Gangadhar Tilak, in Telugu, who is sent as one of the faculty members and later falls in love with one of the professors played by Samyuka Menon, who believes that they will do some good for the college.
However, Balamurgan’s world turns upside down when he realizes the real intention of the chairman to send them to the rural areas as he unfolds the dark side of the conspiracies of the educational mafia. The film will revolve around Balamurgan and his struggles against the privatization of education.
A source close to the film stated that: “Venky Atluri has previously made youthful entertainers. But this time he wanted to make a movie which has a good message but also has all the commercial aspects.” The source continued, “We wanted to ensure that the trailer should be hard-hitting and it should also throw light on several issues that distress the education segment. The dialogues had to be thought-provoking and at times whistle-worthy too.”

Samuthirakani will play the antagonist in the film and the other cast includes P.Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Pammi Sai, Hyper Aadi, Shara, Aadukalam Naren, Iilavarasu, Rajendran, Hareesh Peradi, and Praveena.
The trailer assures a promising social-drama and it throws light on the several issues that distress the education segment with hard-hitting dialogues the film has a predictable plot and yet Dhanush, who is a PAN India star has essayed the role exceptionally well.
