India Amarteifio revealed that she wasn’t used to watching period dramas as they lacked racial diversity, which seems to be contradicted by the Bridgerton series.
Shonda Rimes’ record breaking regency romp- Bridgerton has sailed off for a third season expected to be Penelope-and-Colin centric. After the utmost success of the first two seasons, Bridgerton series is presenting a spin-off season featuring the young Queen Charlotte and her extraordinary journey to the crown.
Bridgerton- against the backdrop of Regency Era
Julia Quinn’s best selling novel series- Bridgerton is based on a prominent and wealthy family of eight close-knit siblings on which the eight books are set. It is set in the competitive world of Regency London High Society which highlights the flaw of the self proclaimed upper class individuals.
The catch however is Lady Whistledown who seems to have all the gossip regarding the town’s illustrious matches and newly minted debutante. But the one thing that she’s particularly interested in reporting is about the latest scandals and secrets of the society which is precisely meant to ruin their image in what is supposed to be a good society.Â
Queen Charlotte- A Bridgerton Story
The Netflix spin-off of the Bridgerton series will focus entirely on Charlotte’s rise to power and the pivotal and infamous marriage to King George III. Fans are speculating this spin-off to be even more addictive than the actual series, but it is yet to be found. The show premiers on May 4 which will definitely answer all the excitement.
As Queen Charlotte’s story isn’t mentioned in the books, it appears the spin-off will stray away from the original Quinn book set. What an amazing diversion, to be sure!Â
The extravagantly dressed ruler with the most extensive of hairstyles believed to be Britain’s first black queen is played by Golda Rosheuvel, it was revealed just last year that India Amarteifio will portray her as a teenager.
A much improved perspective
India Amarteifio in an interview with Telegraph revealed that she has never been fond of watching period dramas as they clearly lack racial diversity which is both discriminative and not righteous.
India is a half black and white in inheritance and considers her family to be ordinary and she never thought them to be capable of representation like this- she further explains in the interview.
Because of the increased and upleveled representation of the Bridgerton franchise showrunner Shonda Rimes, India now loves and enjoys watching period dramas. She states that Shonda Rimes is at the forefront of this revolutionary movement as she includes people in genres where they didn’t exist before. She was all giddy about the fact that now there are shows where people of color are included. Â
The introduction of Sharma family with the Indian inheritance in season 2 was an attempt to include all varieties of diversities in the series.
India is believed to have a German and African ancestry which makes her the first mixed heritage queen to play this iconic role. In her conversation with Golda Rosheuvel she was advised to view this role as an individual factual character as the character she’s playing is real but the role is based on mere facts.Â
The Bridgerton series has already taken the parameter way too high. It is only right to assume that the upcoming seasons will leave the audience spellbound and with even more great achievements to entitle.
The wait might seem long but the execution will suffice everything, I’m sure of it.
