In a surprising series of events, Twitter, the social media giant changed its iconic logo brand from a blue bird to letter ‘X’. The rebranding of the company took place in mere 3 days. Along with the logo, the name of the social media app also changed to X and browsers will be redirected to twitter upon searching x.com.
On Saturday, 22 July, Elon Musk informed the public through a tweet about a complete digital makeover, revealing the new logo on Sunday. This makeover comes after Elon Musk registered Twitter under the name of X Corp earlier this year in the month of April.
Reason for Twitter’s Rebranding
After dropping the announcement which took the digital world by storm, many wondered what prompted the company to undertake this move. However, the company did not immediately reveal its reason for taking this bold move. Later in a tweet, Elon musk revealed that ‘X’ is more than just a cosmetic change and was driven by twitter’s desire to adapt to values of a changing world with primary focus on free expression. It focuses on becoming an “everything app” by facilitating people with features such as payment of rents, scheduling appointments and online purchases.
X: A Dream for Musk?
The letter ‘X’ holds symbolic value for Elon Musk and his ventures. SpaceX, Tesla model X are some of the ventures where Musk decided to incorporate the letter. Although his dreams have been multifaceted, this trend of incorporating the letter ‘X’ can now be confirmed by this great decision of rebranding twitter after ‘X’.
Public Reaction
While industry experts regarded it as a great move on the company’s part to stay competitive and trending in the market, the user base on the other hand showed mixed reactions to this decision. While some regarded ‘Larry’ the blue bird as an iconic trademark for twitter, others thought of it as a future approach on part of the company.
Any Change in Features?
Elon Musk has spoken multiple times of his goal to turn Twitter into something similar to WeChat. Although, the app is the set to bring in new features soon, no new changes in features have been announced so far. While some twitter users faced glitches while the app was undergoing a makeover, the company’s commitment to providing an excellent user experience remains unchanged. The focus has now been shifted to enhancing user engagement, promising a more intuitive and streamlined experience.
