In a recent interview with indiaexpress.com, film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh called Gadar 2 to be a ‘lottery’ for film exhibitors and management as the advance booking of the film was exceptional. He said in the interview that director Anil Sharma’s new release ‘Gadar 2’ will rule the ‘heartland’ as people are super excited for the movie that it sold approximately 2.75 lakhs advance tickets for the movie.
How was ‘Gadar 2: The Katha Continues’? Here’s a brief review.
‘Gadar 2: The Katha Continus’ is a sequel of the 2001 movie ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’. The story is about a father, Tara Singh, played by Sunny Deol, his son ‘Jeete’ played by Utkarsh Sharma and his mother and Tara Singh’s wife ‘Sakheena’ played by Ameesha Patel. The movie continues from where it left in Gadar. In this movie Tara Singh is seen living a happy life in India with his wife Sakheena, with whom he falls in love with everyday, and their college-going son, Jeete.Â
With some twists and turns in the plot, Jeete ends up going to Pakistan where he is held captive by Pakistani General Hamid Iqbal (played by Manish Wadhwa). He then plans to punish Jeete when Tara Singh lands in Pakistan to rescue his son. The movie is about how this father-son duo escapes Pakistan.
Director Anil Sharma has kept the nostalgia game on by adding a few scenes of the original Gadar movie. Ameesha Patel has more like a supporting character in the movie, compared to ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’. She is mostly seen grieving for either his lost husband or son.
The first half of the movie goes in a soft pace where the director introduces the audience to the most nostalgic songs of the original movie ‘Ud Ja Kaale Kawa’ and ‘Main Nikla Gaddi Leke’. The iconic hand pump scene from the original movie was added which was a blast in the second half. The second half of ‘Gadar 2’ raised the excitement and enthusiasm among the audiences as a lot of action sequences and suspenses awaits for the viewers.
The dialogues received an extraordinary reaction from the audiences in the theaters itself. More like Sunny Deol’s ‘dhaai kilo ka haath’, his dialogues in the movie were remarkable and raised the interest of the viewers even more.
To talk about the technical part of the movie, DOP Najeeb Khan’s cinematography receives appreciation for bringing the original Gadar feeling alive in its sequel. The background music of Monty Sharma is also appreciated for lifting up some slow sequences in the movie.
This movie is definitely a must watch for all Sunny Deol fans and non- Sunny Deol fans and action lovers.
