Facebook post by UP man gets him booked under IT act by Jewar district police
A social media user in Uttar Pradesh posted an objectionable picture of Yogi Adityanath and Mayawati on 13th March 2022. The district police lodged an FIR against the man and arrested him on Tuesday, 15th March 2022. The man was booked under IPC 152 B and the Information Technology Act.
The social media user from Uttar Pradesh was from Gautam Budh Nagar, a resident of the Jewar district. He made a post on Facebook about Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Bahujan Samaj Party supreme Mayawati. The post contained a morphed picture of the two as bride and groom. Furthermore, it included an offensive caption. The photo was posted on Facebook on 13th March 2022.
The post was brought to light by a Twitter user. The Twitter user filed a complaint about the Facebook post to the Jewar district police. The police followed up with an FIR lodged against the man and initiated an investigation. The SHO of Jewar police claimed that the man was identified as Amir Khan. He was a daily wage worker from Dayanatpur village. The man was booked under IPC 152 B, 505 (2) and the IT Act.
“The accused has been identified as Amir Khan, a resident of Dayanatpur village under Jewar police station limits. He was held near the Sabauta underpass on Tuesday morning,” said a police spokesperson.
In the past, similar incidents had occurred that led to the same consequences. Chand Qureshi in 2020 and Prashant Kanojia in 2021 November were arrested for similar reasons. Additionally, Peer Mohommad was also booked for an offensive form of expression against Yogi Adityanath. The UP police and IT cells continue to keep an alert eye for such cases.
