Congress, TMC, Left parties, RJD and AIMIM Condemns Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair’s arrest.
Opposition parties on Monday condemned the arrest of journalist and Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair’s arrest. They also hit out at BJP, accusing it clamping down on those who “expose” its hate speech and fake propaganda.
The Congress, Trinomool Congress, Samajwadi Party, the Left parties, RJD, National Conference and the AIMIM slammed the Centre. They accused it of abetting hate speeches and targeting those who report such hate campaigns.
The Delhi Police arrested Zubair after a person filed an Filed against him. The complainant accused the journalist of hurting his “religious sentiments” and called for legal actions against him.
Rahul Gandhi Slams the Centre over Zubair’s Arrest
Soon after Rahul Gandhi criticized the Modi government on Twitter. Every person exposing BJP’s hate,bigotry and lies is a threat to them. Arresting one voice of truth will only give rise to a thousand more. Truth always trumps over tyranny.Daro Mat,” he tweeted.
His party colleague, Jairam Ramesh gave in to the criticism too. “Alt-News and Zubair have been in the forefront of exposing the bogus claims of the Vishguru,who has struck back with a vengeance characteristic of him. Delhi Police, reporting to the Union Minister has long lost any pretensions of professionalism and independence,” he said.
Derek’ O Brien, Owaisi and Manoj Jha take Digs at the Centre
Trinomool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek’ O Brien hit at the centre too. He tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and tweeted: “For all the power you wield, you are essentially COWARDS”. Brien’s tweet seems ironical for the Mamata Banerjee government herself has arrested poet Roddur Roy for defamation.
Meanwhile , Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav tweeted. He wrote in Hindi: “Those who deal in lies, don’t like the ones who investigate the truth.” Asaduddin Owaisi also criticized the government on twitter: “He’s been arrested with no notice and in some unknown FIR. Total violation of due process. Delhi Police does nothing about anti-Muslim genocidal slogans,but acts swiftly against crime of reporting hate speech and countering misinformation”.
Soon RJD leader Manoj Jha joined in. “Making hate speech is no crime but reporting/exposing such speeches are criminal activities and that’s why Zubair has been arrested. And Irony dies hundred deaths… The great leader invokes Emergency,” he said.
