The story so far
Before we get into the Ms Marvel finale, let’s look at the story so far.
The series serves as an origin story for the super-popular superhero, Ms Marvel, aka Kamala Khan. The comic book character made her first appearance on the big screen with the Disney Plus/Marvel original series. Iman Vellani plays Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager from Jersey City, played by Iman Vellani. As the Disney Plus plot synopsis says,
“[Kamala Khan] is a super hero mega-fan with an oversized imagination — particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, right?”
Despite her superpowers, Kamala is an awkward, everyday teenager that fans can understand and relate to. Her identity serves to make her relatable rather than different. See why fans are calling Ms Marvel the most relatable superhero yet. Well, does Kamala’s life get better with superpowers? We’re about to find out.
The trailer
Fans got their first peek at the show when the trailer was released on March 15. We finally got to see Kamala Khan in action as the awkward, daydreaming, good-hearted superhero. See for yourself why it generated such a buzz among fans of the comic book.
Episode One “Generation Why”
Episode one introduces us to the wild, imaginative life of Kamala Khan. We meet supportive friends Bruno and Nakia, her overprotective mother Muneeba, her goofy father Yusuf, and her aloof but caring brother Aamir. We also see her tackle her everyday fears and chase her small dreams.
Aptly titled “Generation Why” after Conan Gray’s hit song, we see Kamala navigate high school and teenage life. There is a lack of Marvel’s signature CGI-induced action sequences, but they aren’t missed. In the coming-of-age theme of Ms Marvel, we see much more creative use of graphics. We get to see inside Kamala’s head, her imagination, and her worries.
Her biggest problem isn’t monsters or aliens, but failing her driver’s test. She rebels against her parents to attend the AvengersCon in a Captain Marvel costume, only to discover she might herself have superpowers.
Here is a hilarious clip from the first episode.
Episode Two, “Crushed”
In Episode Two, we delve a little deeper into Kamala’s newfound powers. We find out that it is not the bangle that is the source of her powers, but her core. It serves an important message that her superpowers are not something external, but something inherent inside her.
We also get to see Kamala being her goofy teenage self. There is a fun sequence of Kamala and her friends at the Eid party, introducing the community. She hangs out with her new crush Kamran, narrowly avoiding getting caught by her brother. Watching her be her cute, authentic self is an experience all brown teenagers can relate to.
Here is a fun sequence of Kamala training in the second episode.
Episode Three “Destined”
In “Destined”, we see the whole Khan family prepare for Aamir’s wedding. On the other hand, Kamala learns vital information about her new powers. She must a crucial decision, and it may change everything. Soon, the consequences of her decisions come to chase her.
The Clandestine or the “Djinn” demand Kamala give them the bangle, but she refuses. The world faces a grave danger should the Clandestines use the bangle. Kamala escapes being caught, thanks to Kamran’s warning. Unfortunately, Clandestine go after her and crash Aamir’s wedding.
Speaking of weddings, here is an amusing dance sequence from Aamir’s wedding.
Episode Four “Seeing Red”
By far the most-loved episode of the show, “Seeing Red” takes Kamala to Pakistan. After seeing a mysterious vision of a train, Kamala and Muneeba visit Pakistan upon her grandmother Sana’s insistence. Unbeknownst to her mother, Kamala and Sana explore her powers further.
Here, we are also introduced to the iconic Red Daggers from the comics. We see Marvel’s signature action-packed chase sequences in the streets of Karachi. We also meet the smart-talking Kareem aka Keemo, played by Aramis Knight. South Asian fans are also serviced by the appearance of Farhan Akhtar’s mysterious Waleed.

Episode Five “Time and Again”
The stakes are at their highest in the penultimate episode, “Time and Again”. Here we see Kamala coming to terms with her powers. She must now shoulder the responsibilities that come with it.
In a much-anticipated scene, we finally meet Fawad Khan. He plays Hasan, Kamala’s great-grandfather and the Clandestine Aisha’s husband. His appearance, though short, was much appreciated by South Asian fans.
In a final nail-biting sequence, we see Kamala in full action. She is clearly in control of her powers, though struggling with the environment. She narrowly manages to save her grandmother Sana.

What to expect from the Ms Marvel finale?
In the Ms Marvel finale, We finally see Kamala fit into herself, literally and metaphorically. She comes clean to her family, and they readily accept it. As if their acceptance wasn’t surprising enough, her mother presents her with a custom outfit to wear as well. This comes as a throwback to an earlier superhero costume her mother made, which she had rejected. The finale is full of easter eggs for the upcoming Phase Four, references to the X-Men, and plotlines which will set up upcoming films.
We know that the finale is not the last we see of Kamala Khan and her gang. The series will serve as a set-up for 2024’s The Marvels. We will see Iman Vellani reprise her role alongside her hero Captain Marvel, played by Brie Larson, and Monica Rambeau, played by Teyonah Parris.
