JD Chakravarthy who played the titular character revealed a lot of untold stories of how he was chosen to play Satya and even revealed about Shah Rukh Khan’s phone call after watching the film. And he said that he would remove JD Chakravarthy from the film, and replace himself as the character.
SRK was joking with JD
Recalling the memorable incident, JD Chakravarthy revealed that on July 2, an evening before the release of Satya(1998), he got a call from Mani Ratnam. He had watched Satya and JD asked him if he liked the film or not. To this Mani just told JD that someone wanted to talk to him and handed the call. He further said, “That somebody took the phone and said, “Salaam Alaikum.” I said, “Walekum Assalam, kaun bol rahe hain?” The person said, “Doesn’t matter who is talking, just answer one question. If ‘Satya’ is to become a disaster, what do you think we should do?” I asked him, “May I know your good name please?” He said, “What’s there in the name?” I said, “It’s important. Tell me your name.” He said, “My name is Shah Rukh Khan.”
JD Chakravarthy revealed that he asked Shah Rukh Khan what they should do if Satya turned out to be a disaster. SRK replied. “It’s simple. ‘Satya’ mein jo JD Chakravarthy hain na usko nikaal kar film mein Shah Rukh Khan ko daal do. SRK further said, “Agar aap mujhe film mein daaloge toh main film ka one two ka four kar doonga.” JD quipped that he understood King Khan was joking. Later SRK complimented him and the film.
In a free-wheeling conversation JD shared the untold stories of how he was chosen to play ‘Satya’, the ups and downs in the production of the film, the making of the iconic song ‘Goli maar bheje mein’.
Satya turned 22 years in this month
Satya, released on July 3, 1998, is a crime film.Ram Gopal Varma is one of the most renowned directors in Bollywood. He has given some of the best movies which are still remembered by everyone. One of his most remembered films has to be the gangster drama Satya which clocked 22 years this month. The film starring Manoj Bajpayee, Urmila Matondkar and JD Chakravarthy among others paved a way straight into the hearts of the fans and not only won 6 Filmfare awards but also a National award among many others.
He also revealed that Tabu thought that he was really dead after watching the movie. The actor said, “Tabu has seen the film and she was crying thinking that I was really dead.” The actor also recalled the time when his crew advised him not to show the movie to his mother because no mother can see her own son dying in the realistic way in which the film was shot.
As you may know, good fortune is a bastard and failure is an orphan. When a movie is a hit everybody needs to gloat how they contributed to it. But when the movie flops no person needs to take duty. Whatever we might really feel as of late, ‘Satya’ is just one guy’s imaginative and prescient and that’s Ram Gopal Varma. Whatever modifying, sound and songs I’ve carried out for the movie, had been according to his imaginative and prescient. While he preferred what I had carried out, there have been additional instances when he had advised me that one thing used to be no longer operating.
Dil Se (1998) is a romantic thriller film directed by Mani Ratnam. Written by Mani and Tigmanshu Dhulia, the film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Manisha Koirala, and Preity Zinta among others.
Funnily enough, Shah Rukh would go on to star in a crime thriller titled One 2 Ka 4 in 2001. The film, directed by Shashilal K. Nair, also starred Juhi Chawla and Jackie Shroff. It was not successful at the box office, earning just ₹13 crore and barely breaking even.
