BJP leader  Seema Patra arrested for torturing her house help

Seema Patra, the head of the BJP’s Jharkhand branch, has been placed on administrative leave after being charged of torturing, assaulting, and locking up her domestic assistance for eight years. 

On Tuesday, the BJP suspended Seema Patra, the head of its chapter in Jharkhand, following accusations that she had mistreated her housekeeper for eight years. An article from India Today claims that Sunita, a tribal woman, was forced to clean the bathroom with her tongue. The victim, Sunita, was allegedly beaten with a hot pan and iron rods and made to lick the urine off the floor. Sunita has numerous injuries on her body. 

Sunita was unable to stand by herself because she was imprisoned in a chamber without food or drink and had her teeth shattered with an iron rod as well. At the moment, she is receiving care at RIMS in Ranchi.On August 22, Ranchi Police freed the victim from the BJP leader’s residence. 

Seema Patra, a former Jharkhand-based IAS officer who is also his wife, has not yet been detained. 

The event has been reported to the National Commission for Women (NCW). 

Sunita is a resident of a village in Gumla and is of tribal descent. 

She was hired to work as a domestic helper in the Patras’ home about ten years ago. Later, she and the couple’s daughter Vatsala Patra were dispatched to Delhi. When Vatsala was transferred from Delhi to Ranchi, Sunita returned there and stayed at BJP’S Seema’s residence.

If Sunita’s urine unintentionally spilled outside of the room, she had to wipe it up by licking it with her mouth, according to the news agency IANS. 

According to reports, Ayushman, Patra’s son, sought to assist the victim and told his buddy Vivek Baski, a personnel department officer in the Jharkhand government, about the events that had taken place at home. 

Sunita then told Vivek about her trauma, and after Vivek complained to Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha, Sunita was saved.

According to a tweet from The Dalit Voice, Sunita was repeatedly burned with iron rods while being forced to “lick urine.” 

The user also posted a video of Sunita lying on a hospital bed, clearly hurt.

At the Agoda police station in Ranchi, a case was filed against Patra, the spouse of former IAS officer Maheshwar Patra, under the pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the SCST Act, 1989. Tuesday, the court used Section 164 to record Sunita’s testimony. After Seema Patra was charged with mistreating her housekeeper, the Jharkhand BJP placed her on indefinite leave. Seema Patra was captured by Ranchi police as she attempted to flee the city on the road after they had conducted many raids to arrest her.

 Agora police in Ranchi began looking for Seema Patra after she ran away out of dread of being apprehended by the police. The domestic helper Sunita was allegedly made to scrub the toilet with her tongue. Sunita’s body was covered with numerous wounds. She claims Seema Patra once burned her with hot objects.

WHO IS SEEMA PATRA?

The state convener of the “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao” movement is Seema Patra. 

She was a part of the BJP’s women’s wing and is Maheshwar Patra’s wife, an ex-IAS officer. Ayushman Patra, Seema Patra’s son, tried to protect the maid when he was working at the state secretariat, and he told his friend Vivek Baske about the events at home. 

Sunita was saved with his assistance after she, at last, told Vivek about her tragedy. The allegations that Seema Patra had harassed her domestic worker in Jharkhand were brought to the attention of the National Commission for Women. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXzK56yKxYU

NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said in a statement that the panel has written to the DGP of Jharkhand requesting that the accused be taken into custody if the charges are proven to be genuine. Rekha Sharma has stated, “The BJP Commission has also requested a fair and timely probe on the matter.
