Women and children evacuees killed by Russian troops in Ukraine’s Kyiv region.
Seven civilian casualties were observed on an attack on Friday, 11th March 2022. The troops attacked women and children evacuees from Kyiv. The defence minister of Ukraine released the official statement on 13th March 2022.
A breach of consensual ceasefire
Ukraine strategized a plan to execute the safe evacuation of civilians. On 9th March, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk proposed the idea for approval.
The idea of “six green corridors” was agreed upon by Moscow. The approval came in from the Russian Federation as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross.
“At half-past six in the morning, we received a message from the Russian Federation, approving our previously proposed routes, as well as a message from the International Committee of the Red Cross about the letter sent in their name with such approval,” said Iryna.
According to the agreement, six routes were selected as safe outlets for Ukrainian evacuees. The time for the ceasefire was 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. every day. The attack on Kyiv on 11th March 2022 was the result of a breach of Ceasefire. The women and children evacuees were taken out during the designated time.
However, Russian troops attacked the evacuees, violating the previously consensual agreement. Seven evacuees, including three children, were declared civilian casualties. Furthermore, there was a high level of damage to civilian infrastructure.
In addition to this, Russian forces attacked a mosque in Mariupol. The mosque sheltered 80 civilians. The troops also abducted the mayor of Melitopol. Martial law has been imposed in the country of Ukraine.
The United States of America and NATO continue to provide Ukraine with military aid. A lawsuit has also been filed against the Russian Federation with the United Nations.
