Diminishing levels of the stress hormone Cortisol predict long Covid. Long Covid refers to the effects of the post-Covid-19 condition.
A striking fall in the stress hormone, Cortisol, predicts long Covid. According to new research, the decrease in the level of Cortisol is one of the strongest predictors of persisting symptoms of Covid-19 that is bothering millions of survivors worldwide.
The research was conducted by the Yale School of Medicine in Connecticut and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. Reportedly, the levels of the stress hormone, Cortisol, in the post-Covid-19 condition people were hardly half of those detected in uninfected, healthy people and fully recovered Covid-19 patients.
However, No one is aware of what exactly caused the constellation of these symptoms, called long Covid. It afflicts around 10%-20% of people around the world that were affected by the Sars-Cov-2 virus which caused the global pandemic Covid-19. The United States government is allotted more than 1 billion dollars to assimilate its occurrence and to come up with an approach to treat and prevent the condition.
