The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was accused by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of attempting to “buy” some of its recently elected council members in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The party said that the BJP had resorted to playing “dirty games“.
In an interview with the media, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh claimed that the BJP is engaging in dirty games, just like the horse-trading of MLAs in Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa.
Despite having received 30 fewer seats in the recently concluded civic body elections in Delhi and losing 80 seats compared to the last elections.
Mr. Singh continued, pleading with the Delhi Police Commissioner to detain and imprison those who are “trying to butcher democracy and insult the people’s mandate” by using threats and money. They are using the same “formula” of buying elected officials in Delhi.
Even after receiving 30 fewer seats than we did, the BJP still claims that the mayor would be theirs, according to Sanjay Singh.
Mr. Singh claimed that Yogendra Chandolia phoned Ms. Sharma and said that Adesh Kumar Gupta, the state president of the BJP, would like to speak with her. He further stated that Mr. Gupta and BJP activists cited a budget of Rs. 100 crore for the purchase of MCD councilors.
“Just 10 council members were purchased with this 100 crore. The Bharatiya Khokha Party has a budget of 10 crores for each councilor (AAP’s jab at BJP for suspected horse-trading)”, he added.
According to Mr. Nawariya, individuals who backed him and were spotted with him were harassed and targeted. He added that they had gone to their homes and screamed filthy insults, warning his supporters of severe repercussions.
They have explicitly stated they would kill me before I take the oath about me, he continued.
The spouse of Jyoti Rani reported that a stranger on the street stopped him and stated, “I have an offer for you.” When he declined the offer, the man continued in insisting that one could cross-vote secretly, the man stated, “He told me they would give us 50 lakh to cross-vote.”
These council members represent the AAP, and they will loyally and honestly support Arvind Kejriwal. Our council members will continue to expose all of their ruses, “said Mr. Singh.
Earlier, the BJP claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party was attempting to recruit its council members.
The BJP had stated, “After cash for ticket, AAP is trying cash for councilor”.
The BJP has already accused the Aam Aadmi Party of running “Operation Lotus,” and now the BJP is accusing the AAP of waging “Operation Jhadu” (broom, which is the AAP’s election symbol) “.
According to the BJP, Arvind Kejriwal’s operatives are prowling Delhi’s streets in an effort to seduce council members.
The AAP defeated the BJP on Wednesday in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections by winning 134 wards, ending the BJP’s 15-year hegemony in the prestigious municipal corporation and cutting the number of seats held by the Congress in the 250-seat House to just nine.
The BJP, which exit polls projected would lose by a wide margin, came in second place with 104 ward victories.
In his first conversation with the newly elected AAP council members on Saturday morning, Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, declared that the MCD is about to enter a golden age under the leadership of AAP. For the first time in history, the same upright administration that is in charge of the city would also constitute the government in MCD, he declared.
