The Police Departments of Pune, Ahmednagar, and Nashik have been very active lately. Based on the inputs received from the Military Intelligence (MI), the Police have been on a spree of investigating fraudsters posing as Army, and defense personnel and arresting the impersonators.

Joint Operation:
After receiving information from the MI unit of Pune Headquartered Southern Command, the District Police of Ahmednagar conducted a joint operation near Professor Chowk in the city’s Saveli area, with a team comprising of sleuths of MI along with the Local Crime Branch of the city police. A 35-year-old man impersonating himself as the officer of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) has been arrested.
The sleuths of the MI unit became active after receiving information that a suspect impersonating himself as a RAW officer has been present in Ahmednagar, which is home to several sensitive defense units namely the Mechanised Infantry Centre and School, Vehicle Research and Development Establishment, and the Armoured Corps Centre and School. The Police are investigating if the accused was trying to procure access to any sensitive establishment or was only involved in duping people using a fake identity on the pretext of giving them jobs.
A voter Identity card and Adhar card have been received from the accused which, identifies him as Santosh Atmaram Rathod (35), a resident of Divate village in Ahmednagar district’s Shevgaon taluka. Additionally, the Police have also recovered a fake identity card with the name ‘Santosh Rathod”, organisation Research and Analysis Wing, and his designation as the deputy secretary (internal security). The fake identity also had the signature of the ‘issuing authority”.
The officials said that they have received information that the accused may have duped some youth on the promise of providing them with jobs in the defense organisations by faking his identity.

Rathod has been booked under the Indian Penal Code for forgery for cheating, impersonating a public servant, forgery, wearing garb, and carrying a token as a public servant.
Mr. Rakesh Ola, superintendent of police (SP) Ahmednagar has requested people to come forward if they have been the victim of the fraud. Parents and young aspirants need to understand that the armed forces and the police conduct proper recruitment rallies They should not fall prey to the tricks of agents promising to give them jobs into the forces without participating in the rallies.
