Air India was founded in 1932( as Tata Airlines) and grew into the flagship international airline of India. Air India Ltd now will be considering requesting as many as 300 narrow body jets.
This could be considered one of the largest orders in the history of commercial aviation as the previously state-run airline looks to maintain its fleet under a new proprietorship.
The transporter may order Airbus SE’s A320neo family jets or Boeing Co.’s 737 Max models or it can be a mixture of both the models.
The people who informed this have asked not to be identified as the discussions were confidential. An agreement for 300 737 Max-10 jets could be ranged $40.5 billion at sticker prices.
Although for all these large purchases discounts are common.
Winning an order in India would be a success for Boeing, as the rival Airbus controls the skies in the country, the world’s fastest developing aviation market before the pandemic.
Indigo which is operated by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd is the world’s largest customer for the European producer’s best-selling narrow bodies that orders more than 700, which also includes Vistara, Go Airlines India Ltd, and also Air Asia India Ltd which flies the airplane from the same family.
It might take years or more than a decade for the production and delivery of 300 planes. Airbuses that build 50 narrow body jets in a month are planning to increase that to 65 by 2024 and 75 by 2025.
