The film industry has a belief that if the content shown in the movie is completely true then there will be no space for drama or spice. The directors want the story to be spiced or juiced up as much as it can. There are a set of very rare movies which are very true to what happened in real life and it sticks to the accuracy level.
One such film is Denial (it is the true story of Debrah Lipstadt). She was sued for libel by notorious Holocaust denier David Iring. The director of the movie refused to juice up the content and keep the originality alive.
As there is no drama in the movie, the movie remained a very low-key movie till the end. The film is 82% fresh on rotten tomatoes but it remains underrated with a rating of 6.8. average rating and 6.7 at IMDB.
People are really missing out on the realistic point of view and want everything to be juiced up. As we can see in the biopic Sanju, there is a small role played by Anushka Sharma (Vinnie Dias). In real life, there is no one named Vinnie Dias anywhere in the life of Sanjay Dutt and even some of the incidents are modified.
Biopics are not as accurate as they claim to be. The lives of many biopics of historians and famous celebrities tell us that not all movies are made for great people. Many things will be modified in the process. Inaccurate films tell us the mistruths which may outrage the common pulis.
Often, in the filmmaking process, the facts are modified, and composite characters are created to twist the facts. There are also instances where the facts regarding the same are deliberately created to be offensive and create an attitude in the minds of the people. The biopics which lie by ignoring the facts are nonetheless near to the real lives they lived in reality.
No matter how far they go to ignore the facts, it is all done to whitewash the figure, sugarcoat, over- dramatize, simplify the long story into a shorter one, and last but not least misinterpret. Some of the least inaccurate films include Pocahontas, Birdman of Alcatraz, Braveheart, The greatest showman, and many others following this list.
Depending on the biopic, this can be completely fictional. There are many more topics that make no difference. It showed the same thing from the same perspective. The biopic Mithu (biopic of Mithali Raj, the former captain of the Women’s cricket league) was shown from the same angle from which other biopics were shown. Women in biopics are always shown from the same angle in every other movie. A similar thing happened with Panga as well. Though it was not a biopic, it failed to create an impact in the minds of the people.
It can be completely made up by using only the surface-level information provided by them or from some other source. One thing is sure that the directors make sure that they want to cook up something to create something interesting and also to attract a huge variety of audiences.
The biggest thing is that a 100 % biopic is not at all possible by the directors. The more the myth about the main character of the film, the happier the director will be. As this “mirch masala” will grab more audience and the revenue generated will become higher automatically.
Biopics have been in trend for a very long period of time. Some of the very first biopics were based on historical figures such as Peter the Great, Napoleon Bonaparte, Jesus of Nazareth, Joan of Arc, etc. There was a biopic made on Abraham Lincoln as well. With time the meaning of Biopics changed with time. The meaning changed after the 1940s. Biopic does not fall into a specific genre of movie. It is a totally different type of genre.
Not all biopics are safe to watch. There were biopics made in the past that became controversial with time. One such controversial biopic was Bonnie and Clyde (released in 1967) which showed many bold scenes which created a new barrier and also created some controversy. This brought a new revolution to American cinema. In the last few decades, politicians and many figures from various other industries have been considered for biopics. The biopics indeed capture people’s attention.
