“The police have arrested Victor to protect people around the Chief Minister because the corruption began from his cnstituency.”
The speculating a suspicious behavior of the State, which projects a dismal image of the administration, a spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party issued a statement saying that,
“Victor is not the only one crying graft in the recruitment process. it is the job of the police to substantiate the charges and not of a complainant,”
Former rights activist and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi said that,
“The government’s action has conveyed a message that there is no democracy in this country. If you raise your voice against corruption or the government, you will be arrested.”
Way forward
The process of recruitment in state governments is becoming unreliable in recent times late, with several such instances in various states, one such instance was also reported in Karnataka.
Karnataka state government had conducted examination on 3/Oct/2021 to fill 545 Police Sub-inspectors, but the results announced on Mar/2022 were swamped with fraudulent candidates (nearly 60% as last reported by CID).
Immediately the state government revoked the recruitment by suspending all the accused officials including the chief in charge AGDP Amrut Paul and decided to conduct a fresh examination.
Although such stern actions seem to serve as an emblematic model to other states, the dreams of several aspirants get squashed under misery.
Therefore, the government must ensure purely merit-based recruitment to achieve good governance.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, while addressing the first batch of civil servants on 21/Apr/1947, eulogized them as
“STEEL PILLARS of Indian democracy”
Henceforth, a strong infrastructure can have a sketchy foundation.
