Shamshera, a movie that just came out starring Ranbir Kapoor, has been a huge financial bust. Almost 7 months have passed since 2022,But Bollywood is going through a bad phase from the box office point of view of films. The films that were released this year did not perform well so far, everyone expected from Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera but so far it has not been able to do anything special on the box office collection on its first weekend.
After decades, a dacoit drama. Following a four-year absence, Ranbir Kapoor appears in a movie made by the respected studio Yash Raj Films. Shamshera was the most opulent movie theatre experience imaginable. The film industry, which was already reeling from a string of failures, has been stunned by the collections.
Weak Weekend College
Ranbir Kapoor’s return to the big screen after a four-year absence has not been well received due to the film’s underwhelming box office performance. After a mediocre opening weekend of Rs. 10.25 crore, the movie only managed to rise marginally on Saturday, earning Rs. 10.50 crore, bringing the two-day total to Rs. 20.75 crore. And now Shamshera is missing the significant Sunday growth as well. Early estimates indicate that Shamshera made between Rs. 10.75 and Rs. 11.25 crore on Sunday, bringing the opening weekend total to Rs. 32 crores.
What are the causes of this year’s most expensive production’s appalling box office performance?
The result is in, claims trade analyst Amod Mehra. Jayeshbhai Jordaar’s Bunty Aur Babli 2 and Samrat Prithviraj’s Shamshera are the most recent films. Yash Raj Films’ fourth consecutive failure. Aditya Chopra must retire his chamchas, take a sabbatical, reinvent himself, and produce a movie he truly believes in if he wants to revive his banner. In the 1980s, dacoit movies were popular largely due to the large amounts of money that single screens and B&C class theatres generated. Today, most single screens are closed, and B&C class theatres have all but disappeared. A movie like Shamshera becomes immediately out of date as a result, and YRF focused more of its marketing efforts on Ranbir Kapoor and his dogs than on the movie itself. It sent the wrong signals.
Old wine, old bottle, old formula, Ranbir squandered, says Suman Sinha, a reputable film exhibitor in Bihar. Where can I get an audience to witness such a tired plot? Dwarka was beyond repair, thus Lord Krishna submerged it with his own hands. Due to the guys in charge’s ignorance of the current situation, Bollywood is also beyond saving. Subhash Ghai, O P Ralhan, and J Om Prakash were aware and politely left. It’s time for Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra to step down from their positions of power.
Raja Sen, a critic for films, says “While I haven’t seen Shamshera, I believe that it is obvious that viewers want more than just the appearance of A-list celebrities in order to invest their hard-earned money and time. The movie itself needs to be intriguing and appealing; I hazard a guess that the days of movies enjoying strong openings just because of a hero may be over. Or at least that’s what I expect as a fan who is frequently disappointed by celebrities’ poor decisions and by films that place an excessive amount of emphasis on fame.
“Two things are evident: first, the star system has collapsed and there is no star today who has the charisma to carry a film on his shoulder. Secondly, project-making has bombed, and content-making has won,” says filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, who gave the box office The Kashmir Files, a certifiable blockbuster this year.
