Spears shared a post on Instagram on Monday, September 12th, about wanting to be surrounded by “fat people” as it’s the “only” way to “look thin” and made a reference to Christina Aguilera’s dancers.
“I found there was only one way to look thin:
hang out with fat people.”
In the caption alongside the quote graphic, Britney not only name-dropped Christina but claimed that she would’ve looked “extremely small” onstage with Aguilera’s dancers.
“I wish I could have chosen the nannies for my children….. My dancers… I mean if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers I would have looked extremely small… I mean why not talk about it ??
Don’t you think my confidence would have been a bit better if I could choose where I lived, ate, whom I called on the phone, dated and who was on stage with me !!!”
“It’s hard sometimes now I see how much of my womanhood was stripped away at that time and every person sat back and didn’t say a thing !!! Anyways … I will be here talking bout things people NEVER talked about,”
Britney Spears added in the post.
Spears was immediately bombarded with criticism from fans who told the artist to “calm down” and to “delete” her post.
“You can speak YOUR truth without making an effort to offend someone,” one person wrote. “I’m so disappointed,” added another.
Some people even revealed that the artist’s post has led them to unfollow her, while others noted that it could’ve been “harmful” to people who have eating disorders.
Things only got worse when it was reported that Christina herself had unfollowed Britney but had not commented on the situation directly.

Upon receiving the backlash, Britney’s name ended up trending on Twitter, which led to her addressing the subject herself, in the end, asserting that she wasn’t “trying to be critical of anybody.”
Britney has posted another video, expressing openly how being under such intense scrutiny during the height of her stardom influenced her body image.
She also praised Christina for inspiring her and claimed she’s a fan of her work, caveating that her earlier article was meant to be a discussion of her struggles rather than a critique of Christina in any manner.
“By no means was I being critical of Christina’s beautiful body, it is what it is !!! I flew to see her show once and the main thing I noticed was the difference between our people on stage !!!”
She wrote in a separate Instagram post.
“By no means did I even mention Christina, look at my post !!! I was inspired by her show, and she is a beautiful woman of power … Thank you @xtina for inspiring me !!! “
Britney’s response to her message, in which she said it was a “projection” of her worries while she was under conservatorship, confirmed what fans already thought.
From 2008 until November 2021, the legal structure gave Britney’s father and a group of attorneys extensive control over her day-to-day activities.
“To be honest, I’m not trying to be critical of anybody. What I posted is a projection of the insecurities I always deal with as a result of how my parents and the media have treated me.”
Britney closed by expressing her thanks to her fans for standing by her as she comes to grips with her “new life” post-conservatorship. She thanked her readers for their patience while ” figuring out this new life I’m living.”
Others, though, kept telling the performer how disappointed they were and asking her to take down the post and apologize to Christina’s dancers.
