Action star Bruce Willis to walk away from his career due to a medical condition.
According to the Wills family, the Hollywood legend has been diagnosed with aphasia. A disease that has hampered his “cognitive abilities”. Willis’ family confirmed the rumors that due to an aphasia diagnosis he would need to quit.
The disease causes damage to the language-processing part of the brain which in turn causes cognitive problems. This involves speech difficulty and understanding capability. This is a life turning diagnosis for such a beloved movie star and unfortunately demands Willis to give up his acting career in order to focus on his health.
Aphasia is a disorder usually caused by a stroke that can result from head trauma or, in rare cases, neurological disease. Symptoms are vast, some of which include speech, comprehension, and reading ability. In some cases, aphasia is treatable with rigorous speech therapy and is most common in people above the age of 65.
The announcement was published on the Instagram account of Willis’ ex-wife Demi Moore and was signed by Moore, Willis’s daughters, and Emma Heming, the star’s current wife. The official statement on Instagram from Willis’ family reads: ”To Bruce’s wonderful supporters, as a family, we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce is experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is affecting his cognitive abilities.
As a result, Bruce is moving away from a career that means a lot to him. This is a challenging time for our family and we greatly appreciate your continued love, compassion, and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and we want to bring in his fans because we know how much he means to you just as much as you do to him. As Bruce always says, “Keep living it up” and together we plan to do so.”
Wills golden career so far
Born in 1955, Willis began his acting career on Off-Broadway stages in the 1970s. He found great success in Hollywood after starring in the drama series Moonlighting, which aired from 1985 to 1989.
The star cemented his place as an action hero after playing John McClain in 1988’s Die Hard. Since then, Willis has starred in over 70 different films, many of which have become cult classics, such as Unbreakable, 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element, Armageddon, and The Sixth Sense.
Willis was seen in the movie A Day to Die, a heist action film written, directed, and produced by Wes Miller. At the time of his early retirement, Willis was involved in eight other film projects, including Fortress: Sniper’s Eye, the sequel to the 2021 action hit Fortress. The fate of these projects is still unknown.
According to the online database IMDB, throughout his career, the Hollywood legend has featured in films that have grossed over $2.5 billion. In 2006, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Los Angeles landmark that honors veterans of film, television, and music. While Willis has officially given up on his acting career, he leaves significant work behind him. Because of that, fans will still be able to enjoy Willis’ best movies for many decades to come.
