In response to schools in Karnataka receiving what the police called “hoax” bomb threats, CM Bommai said it’s a conspiracy to disturb peace in the state.
Some schools in Bengaluru received bomb threats via email early on Friday. The Bengaluru police had conducted searches in schools and claimed the threats to be “hoax”. Basavaraj Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka, on Friday said these threats are a conspiracy to disturb peace in the state, as a response to the bomb threats some schools received.
Bommai said that Karnataka is a progressive state and these incidents are an effort to tarnish the state’s reputation. He added that the police officers have been directed not to take these cases lightly.
The Chief Minister also reassured the parents about the safety of their ward and said the administration had taken necessary precautionary measures. He assured that those guilty of the threat calls would be traced and arrested.
Action taken by the police
The police had said they have searched all the schools that have received the threats and did not find anything worrisome. According to A Subramanyeswara Rao, additional commissioner of police of East Zone, Bengaluru, the police had received false threat calls during exams earlier also.
This time, the threat emails are received by the schools where the SSLC exams are being held. He said that the parents and students have no reason to fear and panic. The are handling the situation. They have thoroughly searched all the schools and did not find anything.
Rao further informed that different email addresses have been used to send the bomb threat emails. He added the police have conducted searches in 8 schools so far, all from eastern Bengaluru which may or may not be a coincidence.
The additional commissioner stated that in spite of the threat being false, the police has taken the case seriously and two teams are investigating the source of the emails.
The police have also evacuated all the schools and dispatched bomb detection and disposal squad to the schools. They said a case will be filed as soon as the search is concluded.
