India’s remaining 1,70,000 hectares of trees are cut down for coal mining.
Tribals of India are protesting against the evasion of trees in the Hasdeo region for coal mining to save Hasdeo. Chhattisgarh Government has approved the coal mining project in the region of Hasdeo Aranya. Since then, the Adivasis of the area have been protesting against deforestation, loss of livelihood, and displacement.
The coal deposit of India has started degrading, resulting in very less emission of electricity. Due to less generation of electricity, urban areas are facing various problems. One of the steps which are taken is, that hauled some Delhi Metros so that the problem of electricity could be tackled down to a little extent. The electricity Power Plants of Jhajjar and Dadri were just having fuel, coal, that would last for a few days.
Chhattisgarh government and the environment ministry giving a nod to coal mining in Hasdeo Aranya forest is like an ecological nightmare. It would cut the area full of good quality forest down, devastating the green cover. It will also harm animal life, as the remaining stretches of the forest are the home for various species of plants and animals. Environment experts argue that the approval by the government for the mining project will result in unhealthy consequences for the environment and human life itself.
Forests are the lungs of Earth. Trees are the most important component of human life’s survival. The main component, which is Oxygen is required by the human life for survival. If the earth is our mother, then the trees are our fathers.
The tribal communities living in the area are protesting and have quoted the coal mining project as illegal. The forest is the home of the Adivasi indigenous communities and it is a sacred land, according to them. They have relied on it for decades for their livelihood. They are not just arguing for their livelihood or displacement, but also stand against the environmental devastation by hugging the trees.
The Adani group had approved the proposal for the clearance of the remaining stretch of land at Hasdeo for coal mining.
You can’t build nations at the expense of the environment. Any development project done for the upliftment of the society while ignoring its effect on the nature who eventually harm the society and human life in the long run. It’s not only the duty of the Adivasis to save the environment and the biodiversity, but it is the duty of every citizen of every country across the world, to save our mother earth.
It is rightly said that earth has enough for man’s needs but not for any man’s greed. The greed of the man has made him the killer of his own life. He is continuously destroying all the assets which are required for his survival. There are various problems in today’s life like pollution, global warming, climate change, etc. These all are the results of the bad deeds of the man.
Covid was one attack which tried to transform humans. For supporting this statement, the lack of oxygen supply in the second wave of Corona taught the man the importance of trees. As it locked the human population into their own house, the pollution outside was decreased and the earth healed itself to some extent, denoting that each problem our mother earth is suffering from is just because of her child- The Human.
It’s never too late to understand and act upon correctly and it’s high time that humans should understand the value of the assets given to us by mother nature because if we destroy nature, we are paving the way to our devastation.
