A Plot That Blows The Mind And Rages The Heart

It revolves around the lives of Badru, played by the iconic Alia Bhatt, and her abusive husband Hamza Sheikh, characterized by Vijay Verma. Shefali Shah plays the quirky mother of Badru who finds herself in the middle of the husband-wife conflict.
Hamza and Badru are shown to have an abusive relationship, a familiar story in a majority of lower-income Indian households. Drunken and spoilt, Hamza beats Badru for the slightest of reasons including the presence of stones in rice, and Badru, the loving wife, forgives him the next day as he makes false promises. She consoles her mother who is fed up with Hamza’s domestic torture by assuring her he will someday change.
However, Badru’s character arc comes when Hamza, in a fit of anger and jealousy throws her down the staircase causing her to undergo an abortion. Having had enough of his abuses and violence, she decides to teach him a lesson he will never forget. Kidnapping her own husband, she decides to return all the tortures she has suffered back to him.
The rest of the story revolves around Badru and her mother, Shefali Shah plotting to torture and haunt Hamza. A true blockbuster of comedy and satire, Darlings succeeds in keeping you hooked till the end and shocked as much as the protagonist at the revealing secrets and darkness foreshadowed. Roshan Matthew in his surprising cameo steals hearts with his cheeky smile and naturalistic acting adding to the love for this film.
Jasleen, the director did a splendid job at showcasing the sensitive issue of domestic violence with a perfect touch of comedy without deviating from the social issue at hand. Darlings is truly a movie that doesn’t fail to wake emotions of anger, fear, shock, and horror as it brings with it a full pack of entertainment and thrill to its last scene.
