First time in history, Kerala’s only Sainik school in Trivandrum opened gates for the first batch of girl’s cadets to the campus.
In the 75th Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that all the 33 Sainik schools would confirm the admission of girl cadets from the current academic year onwards.
According to this, the Sainik school society will hold 10 per cent of the total seats of each academic year’s entry in reserve for girls.
Earlier in Mizoram, the admission of girl cadets in Sainik schools was a positive trialling in the academic year 2018-19.
Different states took the initiative to enrol girls in their Sainik schools. The aim of including girls on campus is to encourage the spirit within girls to join armed forces and to endorse women empowerment.
Through the entrance test, ten girls got selected for the girl cadet batch in Sainik School for this academic year.
These ten students took admission by clearing the All-India Sainik School Entrance Examination (AISSEE 2021) for 2020-21.
Welcoming Girl Cadet Batch
On Wednesday, Kazhak Sainik School held a special assembly in the school auditorium to welcome the first girl cadet batch consisting of ten girls. From ten, seven from Kerala, two from Bihar and one from Uttar Pradesh joined this batch.
Col Dhirendra Kumar, the principal of kazhak Sainik school, addressed the cadets in the special assemble and heartily welcomed and conveyed his wishes for them.
The school’s infrastructure has been altering for the last year to accommodate the girl cadet batch.
They constructed a new dormitory and house for the girls, and at the beginning of this academic year, they completed the construction.Â
About Sainik School
The concept of the Sainik School developed in the visionary mind of a defence minister in the early sixties, late V K Krishna Menon.
The Sainik Schools were established with well-defined aims and objectives and having a sound organizational structure that flowed right from the Ministry of Defence at the apex level and the Local Board of Administration at the bottom level where these schools are situated.
There are 33 Sainik schools in various states in India, excluding Telangana, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Tripura.
Sainik School Lucknow is not included in the list of 33, as it’s the only Sainik school that the state government handles.
Kazhak Sainik School
The only Sainik school of Kerala is at the Kazhakootam city of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala.
This residential school has been functioning since 1962. Until last year, it was a boys-only residential school, and from this academic year onwards, the school is open for girl cadets.
For the first time since 1962, Kazhakootam Sainik school is welcoming the girl’s cadet batch. The campus covers an area of 225-acre. The students from the age group of 10-18 are accepted here.
Co. Dhirendra Kumar is the newly appointed principal of Kazhakootam Sainik School. He joined on 25th August 2021.
He had served as Vice Principal in Sainik School Balachadi for three years, where he showed a remarkable performance.
His extraordinary contribution to the organization and showing keenness and devotion towards his responsibilities was awarded VCoAS Commendation Card in 2012 and GOC in C Commendation Card in 2016.
