The Metropolitan cities, Delhi NCR are struggling with the battle of a scorching heatwave as the maximum temperature level reaches the 49-degree mark.Â
Inter-Governmental panel on climate change (IPCC), released a report that India will be more frequently suffering from intense heat waves, erratic monsoons, and more cyclonic activity in the coming decades.
“Heat extremes have increased viral cold extremes have decreased, and these trends will continue over the coming decades”, the report said regarding the Indian subcontinent.
Max temperature with 48-degree level has been touching in the state of Rajasthan.
The mercury level is rising day by day in the nation. From 45 to 46, 47, 48 and now 49 degrees Celsius is a huge and dreadful increase in the heatwave. The meteorological department has stated that there is a formation of a new western disturbance in the Bay of Bengal, due to which some areas of the state will be affected. Due to this, people can get relief from the heatwave from 16 to 18 May.
29 cities across the nation have been reported with an excess temperature above 46 degrees.
Being the capital state with 19 million struggled to cope with the killer temperatures. The IMD issued an orange alert.
Sunita Narain, an environmentalist, and director of the Delhi- based Centre for Science and Environment, conveyed that “The threats of climate change are real- dangers are imminent and the future is catastrophic.”
Also talking about the condition of the earth and the changing temperatures between the sea and land surface, Narain said that because of extreme heat, the wildfires, and moisture loss devastating in floods because of extreme rain events, the changing climate conditions should worry the human beings.
Maximum temperatures of over 43 to 46 degrees Celsius are over most parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and East parts of Uttar Pradesh, also in isolated pockets of Bihar, Jharkhand, and interior Gangetic West Bengal. Haryana, Delhi, and Punjab are already fighting the battle against killer heat.
If the maximum temperature crosses 47 degrees Celsius it is declared a severe heatwave. These consequences of extreme heat are from Global Warming which implies extreme climate change such as heat waves rising in frequency. Research has shown the number of heat waves days in India increasing each decade. It has increased from 413 in 1981-90 to 600 in 2011-20.
India is enduring more days of dangerous temperatures and hours-long blackouts.
“Why is it exceptionally warm this year? The only reason is global warming”, said Roxy Mathew Koll, a climate scientist at the Indian Institute of tropical meteorology.
“This is a warning for our economy and human life. That was predicted to happen later in the future and now expected to happen much sooner, including intense heatwave, monsoon disruptions, cloud bursts, and extreme rains”, said Chandra Bhushan, CEO of International Forum for Environment, Sustainability, and Technology.
“We seem clearly headed towards further climate disaster”, Sumaira Abdulali, environmentalist and founder of the NGO Awaaz Foundation said.
Due to immense heat waves, the risk of heat-related health issues has also been on the rise. Common symptoms such as dizziness, headache, and fainting are common reactions. Other health ramifications like sunstroke and serious issues like major organ damage might take place.
If we need to mitigate the environment, the nation is taking various measures to reduce climate change and avoid serial damage. But the main root cause of all these problems is global warming. And carbon dioxide is the worst enemy of the environment. The problem can be solved if we can curb our contribution to save our mother earth and human existence.
As all these drastic changes in the environment are the result of the greedy deeds of human, which is now impacting and affecting us severely, if we want to see ourselves from this devastation, we have to adequately perform our responsibilities towards the nature, to save our Mother Earth, if we wish to save ourselves and if we want to prosper human survival and not ruin it. As if we ruin the environment, we are paving the way to extinct human survival.
