The White House warns that Iran is aiding Russia to get hundreds of UAVs, including drones with weapons, for its ongoing war conflict in Ukraine.
Jake Sullivan, White House National Security Advisor, received information from the United States suggesting that Iran plans to supply Russia with hundreds of drones.
It is unclear whether the plan has been executed and whether Iran has delivered the drones yet.
According to the received information, Iran is preparing to also train Russian forces to use drones.
It has been observed that Iran had provided comparable weapons to the Houthis in Yemen to aid in combatants Saudi Arabia before a cease-fire was mediated.
Russian forces will supposedly learn to operate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in early July.
Da-Jiang Innovations (DJI)- the world’s largest drone maker and supplier stopped supplying drones to Russia, putting an end to its sales in Russia. The sales have also been restricted in Ukraine.
Last week, Ukraine pleaded for donations in the form of drones. Dozens even provided aid by sending hobby and commercial drones to Ukraine after the appeal for ‘dronations.’
Both Ukraine and Russia’s forces have utilized small consumer drones. It allows them a live view of their enemy’s positions and next possible moves.
The news of drone supply to Russia reached the White House a day before Joe Biden’s first visit to the Middle East since becoming the US President.
Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, is scheduled for a trip to Tehran, the capital of Iran. He is to discuss Syria’s peace talk with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
President Putin will travel on July 19.
Drones have been a sharp weapon of choice in the Russia-Ukraine war. Both sides have used drones, but the availability of drones is dwindling for both countries.
The Russia-Ukraine war has become the biggest conflict in Europe. EU finance ministers approved providing financial aid of one billion euros to Ukraine. This is being considered the first installment of nine billion euros promised to Kyiv as financial aid.
Russia and Ukraine are entering almost the sixth month since their war which has disrupted the peace. About 30 people died in a recent Russian missile strike in Chasiv Yar, Ukraine.
