On Friday, D K Shivakumar, the president of the Karnataka Congress, was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate about the National Herald money laundering case.
Before entering the ED headquarters on A P J Abdul Kalam Road, Shivakumar, 60, informed media that he was a “law-abiding citizen” and was therefore deposed before the federal agency despite not understanding why he was called.
On Thursday, the senior Congress leader oversaw arrangements for the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is travelling Karnataka, and walked alongside party leaders Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi. Shivakumar had recently appeared before the ED on September 19 in Delhi, when he was questioned over an additional money laundering case involving the alleged holding of excessive assets.
The most recent round of questions concerns Shivakumar and his MP brother D K Suresh’s undefined past donations to Young Indian, the firm that owns the National Herald.
In recent months, the ED has questioned Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other prominent Congress leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge and Pawan Bansal in the National Herald money laundering case.
